3. ADHD & friendships: what is rejection sensitivity dysphoria (RSD) and why does it HURT?
Your ADHD Besties
04/25/24 • 40 min
On today's show:
• We're overwhelmed at how amazing the response has been to our first 2 eps!!! 😭 THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who's reviewed and rated the podcast, we're obsessed with you guys ❤️🔥
• We recommend our fave TV shows this week (and worry about what happens if AI is better at being a human than us?? 🤖)
• Dilemma #1 - A 27yo listener living at home is struggling with her parent's approach to her ADHD and wondering how to advocate for herself.
• Dilemma #2 - We answer a question about RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria) & friendships in the workplace. We talk about how to distance yourself from your RSD and observe it, instead of over-identifying with the strong emotions and letting them swallow you 🫠
• Ireggy Seggy: we play one of our fave games, 'Pipe Dream', where we hypothesise what life would be like if we could actually follow through on our lofty aspirations 🧘♀️🚴

Hi ADHD besties! This is our LAST episode of SEASON 1! After this ep, we are taking a teeny tiny break and will be back with our usual episode the Thursday after next... PLUS we have some very exciting news! 👀
This week we're overstimulated by kids parties and raising boys (boy parents will agree that it's a never ending bucks party!) 🙃
Dilemma:
A gorgeous neurotypical listener asks how he can support his ADHD girlfriend, especially with her negative self talk and internalised ableism. 👩❤️👨
We discuss:
- How cycles of negative self talk are conditioned in childhood and can become increasingly savage and disollusioning.
- How a partner/friend can help their negative partner by reflecting their thoughts back to them, and helping them get some perspective.
- Grace shares the biggest shifts in her journey with negative self talk and why taking ownership helped hugely.
- Creating space between our thoughts and ourselves and recognising unconscious thought patterns.
- The neurobiology of the brain and why we get stuck in negative thought patterns.
- We look at the concept of 'clickbait thoughts' and question whether thoughts are helpful, instead of whether they're true.
RECS:
- Grace has another questionable rec that Tara is convinced that she came up with 5 minutes prior to recording
- Tara recommends the book 'The Happiness Trap' by Russ Harris
Ireggy Seggy:
This week we're playing 'Good words, Bad words': is it an auditory stim or does it make you feel like peeling your ears off? 🫣
Don't RSD loves!
Tara & Grace xx

13. ADHD: periods, hormones & PMDD
Your ADHD Besties
06/19/24 • 66 min
Hellooo dopamine-deficient dream boats 🛥️❤️🔥
In today's episode:
• We share our thought provoking (see: unhinged) ADHD thoughts of the week.
Open-plan homes; beautiful? Sure! But are they practical for our over-stimulated brains? Eyelid skin; Does it have a neck-skin-level of significance?
• Divergent Dilemma #1 - We discuss dyscalculia, a stand-alone neurotype which commonly occurs alongside ADHD. Tara shares her experience, the shame that she is letting go of and the concept of having a blank “brain paper” when it comes to math, numbers and her struggles with flight times, calendars, time zones etc.
• Divergent Dilemma #2 - Britt sends through an adorable voice note and we discuss the hilarious and fun relationship between dopamine, oestrogen, PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) and PMDD (Pre-menstrual Dysphoric Disorder) spoiler it’s neither hilarious or fun but is SO MUCH BETTER if we track it and understand the WHY that underlies it all.
• This week's Ireggy Seggy is unfortunately named Fanny Pack Hacks (so sorry guys) where we read YOUR ADHD HACKS and find out what actually works for our cute brains.
*in a French accent* RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Grace recommends HotDoc, a magical app that liberates our poor ADHD brains from the burdens of scheduling appointments and conversing with gatekeepers.
• Tara recommends Geneva Vanderzeil’s Instagram account for creative inspiration because keeping our hands busy and our brains engaged helps us to be regulated AF.
Sending ALLL the love and we'll be back in your very good👂's next THURSDAY!
Your ADHD Besties,
Grace & Tara xx

Hi hiii ADHD loves!
In today's episode we have another bestie guestie on the podcast, Jenna Free - ADHD coach and therapist (who you may know as @adhdwithjennafree on Instagram or TikTok).
We chat through two dilemmas with Jenna:
• Dilemma #1 - A cute listener called Em asks: "I told my partner that I have ADHD and struggle a lot with 'time blindness'. While he acknowledged I may have ADHD and wanted to support me, he said this trait was simply “poor time management skills” and encouraged me to learn to do better. How do I explain to people what I believe to be certain before I receive the medical certainty of a diagnosis?"
• Dilemma #2 - A gorgeous name twin listener called 'Tara from Texas' asks: "My son just turned 4 and I find myself exploding with anger seemingly out of nowhere almost daily. He brings me so much joy, so it kills me when I go from 0 to 1000. The most frequent advice I get is to take care of myself first because unmet needs can manifest as anger. BUT having ADHD makes self care so HARD! What is that?!"
• Ireggy Seggy - we play a fun new game that Jenna suggested called 'stick and twist', where we admit to hobbies we started and the others have to guess whether we stuck with them or jumped ship. 🏃♀️🛳️
RECS:
• Jenna recommends Love Island USA, which she's been bingeing this season!
• Grace recommends a stick vacuum cleaner dupe that's changed her life by gameifying vacuuming in a way that is ✨magic✨ for ADHD brains
• Tara recommends a Netflix show called Valeria which she's obsessed with (those fuchsia couches and floor to ceiling maximalist wallpapers 😍)
Remember to head over to @adhdwithjennafree and @adhdbusiness on socials and give Jenna some love!
SEE YOU NEXT THURSDAY LOVES...

23. "Why do birthdays cause so much RSD for ADHDers?" 🥳🧐
Your ADHD Besties
09/11/24 • 58 min
BONJOUR cutest babes tuning in from what is now 126 countries! 🤯😘
On today's show:
- Tara makes a quick note about ADHD and hyper-empathy and then two seconds later laughs at Grace for getting rejected from the Reject Shop.
- We talk about the amazing PMDD discussion we had on our Instagram last week, with some really helpful examples of what PMDD might feel like, check out instagram for info about PMDD management and personal stories!
This week's DIVERGENT DILEMM:
• Are birthdays just an ADHD nightmare that are bound to end in RSD? We discuss love languages, how we feel about gifts and Tara gives a step-by-step for how to embrace your inner birthday diva 🕺
IREGGY SEGGY:
• This week's Ireggy Seggy is another who’s who of notes app crap and this time it’s YOUR notes. We're happy to report our listener-submitted notes are as delightfully unhinged and divine as we expected.
REC LINKS:
• Tara recommends the Clue app, track your period babes! There is an important link between dopamine and oestrogen and tracking can help us to feel more in control, especially if we have PMDD too 💜
• Grace recommends Popstar Academy: Katseye on Netflix. Docuseries ✅ Drama ✅ living out your Britney dreams ✅ what more do we have to say?
We’ll be back in your cute ears next THURSDAY (the third day)
Until then love love love always your ADHD besties,

15. What to do when you're stuck DOOM SCROLLING
Your ADHD Besties
07/03/24 • 72 min
Hiii ADHD cuties tuning in from what is now 104 countries! 🤯😘
On today's show:
• Grace has 3 very important updates that she's bursting to tell us
• Are we still in burnout? What's been helping us climb out of it?? Has Tara got a refund for her marathon registration yet? (The answer won’t surprise you) What change-room moment saw Grace making an ‘ADHD math' speech to convince her husband? And WHAT did Tara snatch out of Grace's box? THESE ARE THE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS WE NEED ANSWERS TO.
• Dilemma #1 - An adorable anonymous listener asks for advice on RSD (rejection sensitivity dysphoria) around dating: she's a late-blooming lesbian going back into the dating world in her 40s and struggling with overthinking and texting RSD (hi it me 🙋♀️) 🫠
• Dilemma #2 - A cute listener called Kelsi asks a double-barrelled dilemma (we LOVE!) about 'hermit mode': being stuck on the couch doom scrolling and lacking the motivation to go outside, AND ALSO the never-ending parade of crafty hobbies she starts and never finishes.
• This week's Ireggy Seggy is our new fave, called "TPR", where we pick famous TV characters and ponder whether they are a Timon, Pumba or Rafiki... the robust, scientific discussion we're always proud to bring you on the podcast. 🤓
REC LINKS:
• Tara recommends PVD tarnish-free, waterproof jewellery as an excellent and affordable option compared to gold jewellery. Brands she loves: Hey Harper, Bohomoon and Atolea.
• Grace recommends all 3 of the Hannah Gadsby Netflix comedy specials, especially Nanette.
We'll be back with a SPECIAL SURPRISE next Thursday babes!
Until then... your ADHD besties,
👱🏻♀️ Grace & 👩🏻🦱 Tara xx

MINI-SERIES 🏝️ Your ADHD Island: with Tara Breuso - "Low hanging Nashi pears & wombat energy"
Your ADHD Besties
07/17/24 • 47 min
Aaaaloha faves! Today we're delighted to bring you another episode of our bonus series 'Your ADHD Island' ✨
Your ADHD Island is a NEW series where our guests are asked to dream up their perfect, ADHD-friendly island paradise free from the burdens of this neuro-normative world. 😍 🏖️
We ask guests a series of very scientific and important questions like:
-‘what food magically grows on trees all over your island?'
-’what accent does everyone have?’
-and ‘what comfort show do the cinemas play on repeat 24/7?'
This week's mystery guest is none other than our very own Tara Breuso, who is ready to share her BOGAN-villea strewn, wombat roaming, nest swinging paradise. Tara lives in Western Australia with her husband Jesse and two adorable brunette sons. The four of them are big fans of cheese, the beach, and Julia Donaldson books (except for the one about the cigar-smoking scarecrow).
We hope you enjoyed our new series, and we will be BACK in your gorgeous neurodivergent ears next THURSDAY with our usual Your ADHD Besties episode.

28. HOW TO: fall in love with your STIMS, manage sensory clashes & reframe ADHD inconsistency
Your ADHD Besties
10/24/24 • 72 min
ADHD BABESSSS! We’re back for Season 2!
In today’s episode Tara is joining us from East Java 🌺, while poor Grace is joining us from germ-ville 🤧.
Grace makes a retraction and apology about her pronunciation of the word Appalachian 🏔️ and promises not to RSD (see: she will RSD about it forever).
Dilemma 1: "How do I find a hobby I like and actually stick with it?"
We discuss letting go of the idea of having to ‘achieve’ hobbies and see them through to completion and that hobbies are often for regulation itself, rather than achieving an end point. Striving for consistency and completion when your brain is interest-driven and divergent can often lead to us feeling Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) and/or feeling negative or resentful towards the hobby.
Dilemma 2: "My son and I have clashing sensory issues 😫 - HELP!!"
We discuss sensory profiles, occupational therapy, and give some suggestions on how to make sure both of your sensory needs are met. We explore sensory avoiding and sensory seeking types, and the challenge of integrating stimuli.
Ireggy Seggy: This week we asked YOU guys what burning questions you had for us. We mostly ponder extremely personal and profound questions like ‘if you were a dinosaur, what kind would you be?’ and ‘what is the best ice-cream flavour?’, in which Grace learns some things about Tara that she can’t unsee... but we also cover some more serious questions like how to speak to family and friends about your diagnosis.
REC LINKS:
Grace recommends: Using your sick leave to smoke through full seasons of TV series, particularly season 3 of the Netflix series Heartstopper, which she feels is not only queer-affirming, but also neuro-affirming and healing for Boomers, Gen-Xers and Millennials to watch as it is so different to our lived experiences growing up 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️.
Tara recommends: Hair shampoo brush things (like this) they feel amazing, but also help to keep hair cleaner for longer, and may help with hair growth 🪮💁♀️
We will be back in your insanely gorgeous ears next THURSDAYYY!
and until then DON’T RSD (we're watching you! 👀)
LOVE!

19. ADHD: Weight & Eating (Part 1)
Your ADHD Besties
08/14/24 • 42 min
Hi bestie babessss! In today's episode:
• Grace can’t buy steak, we talk about we need to take a break from acrylics, and how this is hard for our dermatillomania (skin picking).
• Divergent Dilemma #1 - we answer Jemima's question about ADHD and eating, she struggles with binge eating and feeling self-conscious about her weight. We discuss weight stigma, separating self worth and weight, weight-science -using more clear measures of health. We also touch on restriction mentality and how this can so easily lead to binge eating in women with ADHD.
IREGGY SEGGY:
• We are still riding the high of reading ADHD reddit threads.
We have dogs laughing at us, accidental DIY/accents, arms in bins and most importantly we ask the question: how many days is too many days to eat an errant hand bag donut?
RECOMMENDATIONS:
• Tara recommends hair skin and nail gummies to keep those nails strong and less likely to be picked at
• Grace recommends a supermarket shopping hack for ADHD brains that even the most inattentive brains won’t ‘rump’.
We will be back in those stunning👂's next THURSDAY
