UpLift Live

Our first speaker announcement is here! Meet Louise Brogan, a LinkedIn specialist based in Northern Ireland. She's going to be onstage at UpLift Live to speak about LinkedIn company pages.

TRANSCRIPT

... You should really have one because it gives you double whammy for more bang for your buck, as they say ...

This is Mission Control. It's time to find out who the first speaker is at the UpLift Live conference.

Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. This is John Espirian from the Mission Control team for UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference for LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts.

Intros are out of the way so it's time to hear from our speakers.

OK, our first speaker announcement is here, and it is the wonderful Louise Brogan. She's based in Northern Ireland and is going to be onstage at UpLift Live to talk about LinkedIn company pages.

Let's hop aboard and get to the interview with Louise!

Louise Brogan, thank you for joining us on the UpLift Live podcast.

You are going to be our first speaker announcement for the conference next year.

Welcome and tell us why did Mission Control pick you as our speaker for this event? What do you know about LinkedIn? John, can I just say I am so excited about this whole thing! I'm so delighted to be asked to come and speak at UpLift Live.

I can't wait to meet all the people who are going to be there.

So, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Louise Brogan.

I run a company called, well, it's actually called Louise Brogan Ltd but it's LinkedIn with Louise.

I have been writing, talking, making videos about LinkedIn, probably only LinkedIn, for about 5 years.

Started my business about 10 years ago.

I wrote the lots of people will know me through.

I used to write all the articles on LinkedIn for Social Media Examiner.

And there's nothing I love more than getting in front of an audience and talking to them about how they can use LinkedIn for business.

I have a podcast that I think it's about 5 years old now called LinkedIn with Louise, a YouTube channel called LinkedIn with Louise.

If my name hadn't been Louise, I'm not sure what I would have called everything, because I like a bit of alliteration.

So, yeah, that's me.

I'm based in Northern Ireland.

I work with a team of fabulous writers.

We create content for companies who are mainly in the US and some also in the UK and Ireland.

And I love everything geeking out about LinkedIn, a little bit like you, John.

Fantastic.

Well, thank you for making the trip over the water to come and see us.

You are not going to be the only speaker who is not on the UK mainland.

I'll leave it at that for now.

And well done on the YouTube channel as well.

I've struggled to get people to follow my YouTube channel.

You've got 7000 subscribers or am I my way off? 7000 subscribers, I just hit 850,000 views.

Fantastic.

Yeah, get some YouTuber friends in your life, John.

That's how I that's how I managed to figure out how to do so great.

So, we've got a serious LinkedIn operator here, someone who's got their own podcast, their own successful YouTube channel, and you are going to be speaking to us about company pages, which is a very common question.

I don't really specialise in them although I've got a few myself.

Tell us what's moving and shaking on company pages.

I mean, bear in mind that we're still many months away from the event.

So, no doubt everything will have changed by the time the event comes around.

But what are some of the things that we need to know or some of the pitfalls that people fall into with company pages? I think actually, company pages are the poor, neglected part of LinkedIn for a lot of people, but actually, they're a really, really powerful tool.

One of the analogies I like to describe as to why people should consider their LinkedIn company page.

And bearing in mind, of course, there are companies, like there's 60 million company pages on LinkedIn.

And you have the solo entrepreneurs right up to the global multinationals who are using these company pages.

But if you imagine being at an in person conference, like UpLift Live, and you and I walking around the room and chatting to people, John, are the individuals the personal profiles on LinkedIn.

And when someone is intrigued by what I'm saying on stage, they want to find out more about me and my company.

So, they might go over to the popup banner or the sponsor booth at the event.

And that's how I kind of see the company page.

It is a bit more of your traditional marketing place on LinkedIn.

Welcome to UpLift Live!

A quick intro to UpLift Live as we build to launch the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference on Thursday 21 March 2024 at Millennium Point in Birmingham.

TRANSCRIPT

Hi, everyone, and welcome to the UpLift Live podcast.

This is a podcast to tell you a little bit more about the upcoming UpLift Live conference.

This event is going to be the first of its kind – a conference in the UK, specifically focusing on LinkedIn and aimed at LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts.

My name is John Espirian.

I call myself the relentlessly helpful® LinkedIn nerd.

And I'm a LinkedIn consultant based in the UK.

My whole thing is digging into the techie, nerdy side of LinkedIn.

And so a conference like this is something I've always wanted to attend.

But it didn't look as though there was any sign of that happening.

And so I decided to set up my own, with the help of a couple of colleagues from my Espresso+ community.

If you haven't heard of Espresso+ before, it's an online community primarily for small business owners who want learning, support and accountability in improving their visibility on LinkedIn and online.

Anyway, two of my Espresso+ members are joining me to form "Mission Control" on this project.

And the three of us are running the UpLift Live conference together.

So, along with me, John Espirian, my Mission Controllers are Jeremy Freeman, the Human Content Writer, and Gus Bhandal, the Marketing Guru.

That cool audio sting at the top and tail of the show was put together for us by another Espresso+ member, Mark Deeks, also known as That Piano Guy, and keeping in tune with the whole lift-off and space vibe for the UpLift Live conference, the musical intro should be reminiscent of The Final Countdown by Europe.

And just to confirm, there won't be any long hair or guitars at the event.

So, I've never run a public podcast before but it seemed to make sense to give you a little introduction to the experts who will be speaking onstage at UpLift Live.

Each is an apex operator of LinkedIn, and will be delivering loads of value across the big day, which is scheduled for Thursday 21 March 2024 at Millennium Point in Birmingham in the UK.

You can find out more and get your ticket at uplift-live.com – OK, that's enough for now.

Stay tuned to the airwaves to hear more from us and our speakers.

Lift-off is coming soon.

So, thanks for listening, and stick with us as we prepare for launch.

This is Mission Control ... over and out.

Mission Control: Jeremy Freeman

Meet one of the co-organisers of the UpLift live conference, the Human Content Writer, Jeremy Freeman.

TRANSCRIPT

I just couldn't believe that there's been nothing focused on LinkedIn in the UK.

Welcome back to the UpLift Live podcast. This is John Espirian from the Mission Control team for UpLift Live, which is the UK's first LinkedIn-focused conference for LinkedIn specialists, power users and enthusiasts.

Let's have a change of pace and introduce one of the members of the Mission Control team running the show.

Time to hop aboard and speak to the Human Content Writer, Jeremy Freeman.

Jeremy Freeman, welcome to the UpLift Live podcast.

You are one of our co-organisers, our Mission Control, for the conference project.

But for anyone who doesn't know who you are, tell us a little bit about Jeremy Freeman, and who is a Human Content Writer? Ooh, mystery there.

Well, thank you, John.

It's an honour to be part of the UpLift Live Mission Control team.

So, who am I? Well, I've been in business for over 25 years now.

I started off a digital agency owner.

And I sold that company about 6 years ago.

It was very successful We were part of the very early days of the dot com boom.

But I got a bit bored in digital and everything else.

I got completely burnt out.

And I did marketing, I did quite a few things until I became a proper Human Content Writer in the past year or so.

And it's been really fantastic.

I've actually loved it.

I actually enjoy writing.

I've been writing for years without realising it.

I have to pay special tribute to Gus, who gave me the idea of changing my LinkedIn headline to Human Content Writer.

And that's been a revelation for me, because a lot of people have actually approached me as a result of my headline.

So, big lesson for everyone: think about your LinkedIn headline.

Yeah, absolutely.

And I remember when you were launching that headline, I wasn't convinced about it.

I mean, I've helped loads of people with their headlines on LinkedIn over the years.

I wasn't convinced by that one only because I thought, well, aren't all content writers humans? But you know, you've tried it and it seems to have worked really well for you.

So, fantastic.

So, the question now then becomes, what is a content writer? Why would a content writer be interested in LinkedIn and specifically a LinkedIn conference? Yeah.

Well, what is a content writer? What I do is I write content specifically for LinkedIn and all other digital platforms, including websites, email marketing, company pages, and so on.

I do quite a lot on content.

I also do Google My Business as well, that a big, big thing I'm doing right now as well.

And I mean, the point I want to touch on about being "human" is obviously we all have seen the proliferation of AI and we can see a lot of people are using AI but sadly lots of people are not using it responsibly.

Now, I don't have anything against AI as long as you use it to give you ideas, support.

Yes, you can ask it to generate an article for you and so on, but you do need to show that into a bit more human, coming from your own style and so on.

Otherwise, it's so clear you're using AI.

Why is it so important? For me, content wins every time on LinkedIn.

For any writer or anyone who's thinking about doing more content on LinkedIn or some writing up, it really is an essential part of being part of LinkedIn.

And I've been a huge fan of LinkedIn for the past few years.

But more so in the past two years, where it's gone from maybe 5% of my business to 80% of my business coming from LinkedIn.

Fantastic.

And there's no better way of railing against AI than having community discussions and also actually meeting people face to face.

And that's exactly what we're going to be doing in Birmingham next March.

So, if you want to get a ticket to UpLift Live, the UK's first conference focused on LinkedIn, then come and join us on Thursday 21 March at Millennium Point in Birmingham.

And if you want to get your ticket, you can go to uplift-live.com.

And you'll meet Jeremy and loads of other people.

We've got 7 speakers lined up, and you'll find out who they are very soon.

So, Jeremy, what are you looking forward to in particular at the conference, without giving away who any of our speakers are, of course? I mean, you know, John, we spoke about this idea several months go.

And we thought, got to do something about it.

Why isn't there anything out there like this? We've been to lots of marketing conferences and so on, but but it always seems to be focused on Instagram, F...
