Untidy - How to honour passion and parenthood with Mel Parsons

How to honour passion and parenthood with Mel Parsons

07/26/24 • 41 min

Untidy

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah talk to the multi-award-winning singer, songwriter and musician, Mel Parsons. Mel has released six studio albums and is a full-time, self-employed, touring artist with her own production company. She is also a mother and stepmother to four young children alongside her partner, Josh.

Mel discusses the tenacity it has taken to pursue her musical career, choosing to have a relationship with uncertainty rather than the safety net of a ‘Plan B’, and how she honours both her passion for a creative career and being an engaged parent.

She talks candidly about what she’s had to confront and accept in herself along the way, how she can’t handle 17 conversations at once, what self-care looks like, and why a balanced perspective on fish fingers and cheese on toast is essential for living within reason.

Mel’s soulful, indie-folk music reflects a life lived with bold authentic expression in every facet. She’s witty, frank, and honest. This is a conversation that will validate and inspire!

Seeking joy, sauna thoughts, and sad club sandwiches

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah confirm they wouldn’t succeed in pursuing a career in espionage ... However, in the successful pursuit of joyfulness, Hannah managed to track down a head cold for balance. Matty prescribes a good read for those experiencing, perhaps, too much joy in their lives (‘Between a Wolf and a Dog’ by Georgia Blain) and Hannah recommends ‘Greenlights’ by Matthew McConaughey as an audiobook listen for a long drive.

They ask two poignant questions about saunas, answer neither, but, offer convincing assumptions and everyone needs to follow Matty on Pinterest before she makes her embarrassing boards private.

As the sacrificial lamb for social experiments, Hannah debriefs her latest ‘doin’ it for the pod’ mission and reports back on the ‘Lock and Key’ party she attended. A singles night nothing short of shambolic served with a side of sad club sandwiches.

Relatable rants, the 90’s poo, and dead bird decluttering

In this episode of Untidy, Matty and Hannah kick things off with a relatable rant fuelled by a morning of cat sick surprises and premenstrual rage. Matty has a beef with the cosmetic industry and their unreasonable routines, endless serums, and the pointless fight against the nature of ageing.

They reminisce about how everyone pooed in the 90s and if it’s now okay to handle not-so-urgent messages while handling your urgent business. Matty confesses the troubling realities of her former grubbiness and they both decide to resolve the last bastions of chaos at home with a little cathartic decluttering (preferably before something dies or sh*ts in there first).
