As a nutrition & training coach, I definitely work on mindset, behavior modification & stress management with my clients. It’s a crucial part of their overall wellbeing and success. ⁣
But, I know what is inside my scope of practice and what is not. ⁣I can work with someone who has mild mood struggles, some motivation/discipline issues, mild overeating/binge tendencies, or needs to work on their relationship with food. ⁣ If binge episodes become recurrent, I see signs of anorexia, purging, major depressive thoughts, crippling anxieties, major life stressors etc. I am not qualified to “coach” them through this. ⁣That's where a good therapist comes into play, and there is no shame in talking to an expert in psychology
I've been going to therapy for 10 years now, and I wish every one in the world could have a therapist on call that they could call to at any time. You don't have to "have something" to go see a therapist. We all could benefit from talking things through with an objective third party trained in psychology- aka a therapist. My goal with today's episode is to take some of the stigma out of going to see a therapist and share tools I learned from therapy that can benefit you in your fitness journey and beyond.
In part 2 of this episode I give some inside scoop about what goes in inside an inpatient eating disorder treatment center. Nicole Ferrier interviewed me to find out if treatment centers are like the movies portray them to be.

The menstrual cycle is female's fifth vital sign, and not having one is a symptom of something going on. In today's episode Anya and I break down what causes amenorrhea, getting proper lab work done and how to go back regaining your cycle, including lifestyle interventions. We also touch on our own struggles and journeys with birth control, periods of disordered eating and what we've been doing to support our bodies in regaining a cycle.
Anya Rosen is a is a dietetic intern and soon to be registered dietitian. She is earning her Master's in Nutrition and Dietetics with a Concentration in Clinical Nutrition and takes a integrative and functional approach to helping people remedy their health issues by getting to the root cause.

She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow researching the areas of menopause and metabolism. As a coach she specializes in the areas endurance, strength and hybrid training. She runs her online business ‘Doc Lyss Fitness’ and is a strength athlete, ultra-marathon runner, and all-around fitness lover who is passionate about educating people on science-based fitness to get them into the gyms and on the roads/trails — or often, doing both at the same time!
