2023 marks the 50 year anniversary of what is widely accepted and agreed upon as the birth of hip hop, August 11, 1973. We are celebrating those 50 years with a series of conversations with some our favorite podcast hosts. With hip hop being the most influential and dominant musical genre of the past two decades or so, we believe it's important to reflect on its rich history and evolution. Throughout this series, we will be joined by guests who will share their thoughts and experiences. From their earliest hip hop memories to their thoughts on the current state of affairs, this series will take a fun look at hip hop and its impact on society and culture.
In this episode, we are joined by B. Cox from the The Vault: Classic Music Reviews Podcast. We're talking about some of our favorite albums, what it is that makes something classic and discuss some recent albums that we think will be regarded as classics down the line. We end the episode with a game that we call "This or That?" The choices ranged from picking between two classic hype men to which classic album would B. Cox never listen to again if it came to it.

New Hip Hop For Old Heads
This week, we're revisiting a theme that we explored in episode 43, "New R&B For Old Heads," but this time, we're shifting our focus to hip hop.
For almost two decades, people have been claiming that hip hop is dead, but like with R&B, we don't agree. In fact, we think there are a lot of new artists who are pushing the genre forward and keeping it fresh. So, in this episode, we're going to introduce you to some of our favorite current hip hop artists who are making waves in the industry. We'll also discuss how some of the current styles in hip hop can be traced back to a single rapper.
Join us as we explore the vibrant and ever-evolving world of hip hop, and discover some new music along the way.

What You Say About My Mama?: Menace II Society 30th Anniversary
This week we are discussing the debut film from The Hughes Brothers, Menace II Society. We briefly mentioned the movie in our Larenz Tate episode (also named What You Say About My Mama?), so we decided to drop our thoughts on the cast, our favorite scenes, and whether or not it holds up today. May 26th will mark the 30th anniversary of its release in 1993, so why not take a look back at one of our faves?
