White Yardie is a UK-based Jamaican stand-up Comedian and entertainer. The viral comedian launched his first Comedy special titled Straight Outta Jamaica in 2017, and quickly became a sensation in the Caribbean community. He was nominated for Best Comedian 2016 by the UK Entertainment Awards. Best known for his social media skits, White Yardie is currently on his Coming to America Tour. I caught up with White Yardie midway through the tour to discuss his journey from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to starting his online video skits and stand up career at the same time growing as a household name globally by entertaining the masses from a Jamaican perspective.

Reggae and Dancehall’s Influence on Hip-Hop
The Style & Vibes Podcast
07/03/23 • 29 min
This year Hip-Hop celebrates its 50th anniversary as a genre. You can’t talk about hip-hop and not talk about the influence that Jamaican sound culture played on hip-hop as a genre. DJ Kool Herc, who is of Jamaican descent popularized playing records is between one another, using two record players. This music playing technique became the backbone of the movement in the late 70s and early 80s. While DJ Kool Herc isn’t the only accredited foundation member there are definitely other influences like R&B, Disco and poetry also contributed to the genre. In this episode, we discuss the connections and growth trajectory.

Reasoning with Odessa!
The Style & Vibes Podcast
01/27/20 • 57 min
This week I’m reasoning with fellow podcaster Odessa! She’s much more than a podcaster, she’s the founder of O-access Jamaica, a media platform sharing the best in Jamaican music and lifestyle. She has a number of years of experience in the entertainment industry ranging from Record labels to brand experiences, TV shows and so much more. Currently a T.V. executive for Jamaica’s Daytime LIVE while building her own media platform, Odessa shares her journey as a reggae legend’s daughter, navigating the entertainment industry, the meaning of growing up as a Pan African and of course her thoughts on some of the latest trends in music.

In Style & Vibes podcast ep. 13 I discussed the idea of Cultural Currency, in this episode, I’m revisiting this idea as it’s importance is more relevant than ever. The impact of being quarantined from the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way people access to culture and there are so many conversations happening online about how Caribbean culture and experiences are being revisited.

A Taste of Reggae Sumfest
The Style & Vibes Podcast
07/27/20 • 25 min
The Reggae Sumfest team did a great job putting together #ATasteofSumfest festival in just a few weeks, while most festivals are being canceled or going virtual for 2020, Sumfest is the only Caribbean festival to keep a presence this year. A Taste of Sumfest had a week-long schedule of digital events including music workshops, panels, re-visited older performances and showcased Jamaican homegrown artists on their own turf giving shorter performances for each artist gave us a great sample and something for us to rally around for Reggae and Dancehall music.
