This week, we're revisiting a theme that we explored in episode 43, "New R&B For Old Heads," but this time, we're shifting our focus to hip hop.

For almost two decades, people have been claiming that hip hop is dead, but like with R&B, we don't agree. In fact, we think there are a lot of new artists who are pushing the genre forward and keeping it fresh. So, in this episode, we're going to introduce you to some of our favorite current hip hop artists who are making waves in the industry. We'll also discuss how some of the current styles in hip hop can be traced back to a single rapper.

Join us as we explore the vibrant and ever-evolving world of hip hop, and discover some new music along the way.

On this episode, we are going to talk about a TV show that ran for five seasons on Fox from 1990 to 1994. Created by Keenen Ivory Wayans, it launched the careers of some of the biggest names in show business like Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Shawn and Marlon Wayans, Rosie Perez and more. It was a sketch comedy unlike anything that had come before it and haven't seen since. We're discussing how the show is rooted in such works as Hollywood Shuffle, I'm Gonna Git' You Sucka, and Eddie Murphy: Raw, how the impact and legacy of the show still influences pop culture today, and of course we had to get into some of our favorite sketches.

They Reminisce Over You - Can We Talk? Where The F**k Is Tevin Campbell? (Remix)

09/09/22 • 37 min

Originally released in January 2021, here’s another episode that we’ve taken from the vault and remixed. Check out this conversation that we had about a true legend, Tevin Campbell. We discussed our favorite moments from his career, the songs that we loved, and wonder how he's been able to keep such a low profile in this day and age. Miguel compares Tevin to another R&B legend, (that Tevin himself confirmed in our IG comments) and Christina tells us about her days as video girl in Vancouver.
