James Altucher, Ryan Holiday and Sarah Kunst are 3 of a select bureau of authentic and nice people that VaynerSpeakers currently represents, and we learn why this new agency is "removing the transaction from the engagement" to ensure audience engagement.
Zach Nadler, the CEO of VaynerSpeakers, shares which qualities give a speaker an international audience, what is a multi-hyphenate, his view on what the next billion-dollar business will be for anyone in the events business, and what qualities in a speaker are more important than just having a good story to tell.

Ritual communication creates 'sharing, participation, association and fellowship' according to James W. Carey, and this is just what organizations need to do in COVID times. Yet many companies are focused on simple transmission ie. sharing the information and not considering the emotional response. As my daughters showed me this evening with the ritual they created for the passing of the Platy fish, people want events to have meaning beyond words.
In this podcast, I look at the works of Herbert Marshall McLuhan who wrote The Guttenberg Galaxy and coined the term "the medium is the message". I look at how technology itself is changing the underlying uses of communication and how organizations can take measures to establish rituals which define and protect culture.
The irony is that as communication via platforms becomes more tribal (also a McLuhan phrase), it's also becoming less ritualized and more based on the formula for performance. The final social media send-off of a bin collector after 34 years of service is used to illustrate my view that we need to ensure rituals somehow survive lest organizations end up in the bin.

Where can we find light in this never-ending shade? This will become a phrase etched in everyone's mind as the counterpoint to the Biden inauguration, and the amazing display of eloquence and presence by the poet laureat Amanda Gorman. However, there was a lot more going on that day including the placement of 192,00 flags representing all 56 American states and territories. This episode includes a recording of "The Hill We Climb" which when heard rather than watched is all the more impactful. I share this because firstly it comes as a massive relief to have inspiration from the other side of the pond instead of consternation, but also because it gives great guidance to everyone about the power of words, symbols and the need to let new generations articulate the future vision whilst older leaders play the role of mentors and facilitators. This is exactly what we talk about in the SPEAK|pr program.
Here is a transcript of her inaugural poem, “The Hill We Climb.”

This year SlideShare has been absorbed by Scribd; so what can we use to share and promote presentation? Scribd can be used for the purpose of uploading eBooks, PDFs, ePubs and various other types of documents apart from presentations.

The rapid growth of SlideShare from a small startup to a top website began in 2009, in a tiny room in India, when Amit Rajan, Rashmi Sinha, and Jonathan Boutelle saw the need for a "YouTube for presentations." Within a few years, they had built a network of 38 million registered users by providing a desperately needed tool—and a new social channel for presentations.
Sadly, that era is over and what was the best place to share presentations and gain new viewers is disappearing behind a paywall. Video killed the radio star, and quite possibly slideshare too.
However, if you are looking for simpler sharing platforms explore the following:

One near-universal law of psychology is habituation, which means that we stop noticing things we see or hear many times. This applies to company signage too, and as we come out of COVID lockdown we need to refresh the signage which we use to promote our business and to educate staff, partners and customers.
Research by the University of Cincinnati showed tangible improvements in business due to signage upgrades by up to 10%. This means that to gain attention we need to keep our signage fresh to avoid habituation, but that the costs should pay for themselves.

What can business owners learn from the President of America about building a reputation for a country, and an organization? A 25-nation Pew survey in 2018 found, overall, that 70% of respondents had no confidence in Trump’s leadership. What we take away from these reports is that countries, as well as companies, have a reputation and that these need management too. I talk about how one man can make a reputation, and how stereotypes will bring bias to situations which will need to be addressed in any communications.

Bruce Stokes, then director of global economic attitudes for Pew Research and principal author of an earlier survey (2015), said some views expressed in the survey may reflect stereotypes, but they are important nonetheless.

"Stereotypes such as honesty or inventiveness or aggression, are emotions — not rational views backed by data. (But) these emotions matter. Such stereotypes help drive broader attitudes about policy," Stokes said.

I am using the 4th of July as a prompt to discuss the role of leadership in public relations, as there are many parallels between the reputation management of a country and of a company.
Former Senator John McCain gives us some clues as to what could be a guide to the qualities true leaders display in public. Ask yourself how you can illustrate how you display these in your public relations.
I mention the new book by Mary J Trump, “Too much and never enough.”
