Episode #45 - Business Trinity: Why Training is Critical to the Success of Your Business
The Splitting Smart Podcast

Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.
If your value chain breaks it can disrupt your business big time. Value chains are the processes you have in place to deliver your products and services to your clients. This break might be caused by an employee failing to do their job properly because they didn't have the appropriate training. And that’s totally fixable.
The right training process sets employees up for success and helps them become peak performers. Showing them the ropes is more than just telling them not to break the rules; you’re actually showing them what to do. No more guessing.
This episode is the second in Kelly's "Business Trinity" series (Culture, Training, Hiring). Kelly discusses why the right training keeps your business moving down the path to success. It doesn’t matter if there are only two of you in the organization... training is absolutely critical to your success!
In this episode you'll learn the 4 Key Elements to an effective training process (what training IS and IS NOT) . . . When you get your training right, as a business owner you'll gain freedom to operate and work on your business in the most productive and profitable way possible.

Episode #20 – Change the Locks!

Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.
Today I’m giving you a unique look into what goes on in the inner workings of our law firm. You get to eavesdrop on senior attorney Kelly Bennett...yours truly... mentoring associate attorney Rachael Bennett a few years ago, on a sticky situation.
What happens when you’re going through a divorce, but still living under the same roof? Well if there are kids involved, it can be problematic, especially when something so simple could mean the difference between calm and stormy waters.
I want to remind you: the names, characters, businesses, places, events, locales, and incidents are used in a fictitious manner. Episode #44 - Business Trinity: Culture Eats Strategy for Lunch
The Splitting Smart Podcast
07/07/22 • 47 min
Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.
Is a great work culture all about perks and goodies? Free lunches, nap rooms, and onsite chefs? Nope. Studies show that perks don’t result in a better work culture, and they don’t create peak performers.
If you’ve got too much drama and negativity in your workplace...you're not alone.
In this episode, Kelly shows you what works and what doesn’t when it comes to creating a happier and more productive work team. This is part one in the three-part Business Trinity series (Culture, Training, Hiring). If you’re not sure how to build an amazing culture in your business, this episode gives you answers.
Here's the Implementation assignment Kelly gave you in this episode:
"Culture is not values or mission statements; those are ideals, not disciplines. Culture is how we treat each other, how we talk to each other, whether or not we trust each other, and how we handle conflict. Culture is about accountability, measuring, a bias for urgency, a focus on solutions, calling it tight - saying what needs to be said - being kind and generous, acknowledging one another, and expressing appreciation." ~ from The Road Less Stupid by Keith Cunningham
- What does the culture in your business look like today?
- How are you treating each other?
- How is conflict being handled?
- How is accountability being handled?
- What are you tolerating?
- Define where you are on a scale of one to 10 on adding value to your clients and your customers.
- Are you at a 10, giving massive, massive value? Or are you at a two?
What you want your company culture to look like? Answer:
- How will we treat each other?
- How will we handle conflict?
- What do you need to get courageous about not tolerating?
Decide on one to two things that need to go right away so you can develop the quality culture that you deserve in your business.

When Divorce & Faith Collide (Pt 2): When to Turn to Your Church—And When to Look Elsewhere Ep 57
The Splitting Smart Podcast
03/17/25 • 35 min
Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.
Divorce can feel overwhelming—even when faith is a big part of your life. Many people turn to their church for guidance, but what if you don’t feel comfortable talking to your pastor? What if the advice you’re given doesn’t match up with what you know is best for you and your family? What is there is abuse?
In this episode, Kelly Bennett, Esq., continues her conversation with Denny Brewer—a longtime family law attorney, Executive Pastor, and General Counsel at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. They explore what faith communities often get wrong—and right—when it comes to divorce (hint: especially if there is abuse involved), how to navigate faith-based guilt, what to do if your place of worship isn’t the right fit for support, and why mediation can be the best choice for handling divorce for privacy and mental (and financial!) well-being reasons.
Kelly and Denny chat about:
Why many people feel uncomfortable discussing divorce with their faith leaders
- Why pastors and religious leaders should ask, “Is there abuse?”
- How abuse can go unmentioned and lead to tragedy
- When to seek professional guidance outside of your faith community
- Why mediation is often a better option than going to court
- Why there is no better time to embrace faith and lean into prayer than during divorce
- Plus, a couple of very surprising stories...
Dennis Brewer is longtime family law attorney, and executive pastor and general counsel at Texas mega Church Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. He is the co-author of the new book, Back to Court: A Complete Guide to Child Custody Litigation.
Note: This episode touches on abuse and real-life incidents with unfortunate endings. If these subjects are difficult for you, please listen with care.

Hey friends, divorce can shake your faith to the core, right? Whether you’re struggling with guilt, a fear of being judged by your faith community, or questioning what your beliefs say about divorce, you’re not alone.
What if the very thing you’re afraid of could actually be a source of healing and strength?
In this episode, Kelly Bennett, Esq., chats with Denny Brewer, Board Certified Family Law Specialist, about the impact of divorce on faith. They break down common struggles—like shame, isolation, and judgment—and give real-life insights on getting through divorce while staying true to your beliefs.
Key Takeaways from This Episode:
- The “Shame Factor” in Divorce – Why people feel judged and isolated during divorce—and how to break free from that mindset.
- Faith’s Role in Divorce – How some churches/places of worship get it wrong by ostracizing divorced members—and how others actually provide support and healing.

- The Power of Forgiveness – What true forgiveness really means (and why it’s actually for you, not your ex).
- The Right “They” – Why surrounding yourself with the right people during and after divorce is critical to healing and rebuilding your life.
- Faith-Based Therapy & Divorce Recovery – Why religious counseling alone may not be enough and how faith-based therapy can help you move forward.
- Making Your Misery Your Ministry – How your greatest struggle can become your greatest source of strength in helping others.
Whether you’re the one filing or the one who never wanted the divorce, this chat will help you find strength, clarity, and a way forward.

Hey, it’s Kelly and welcome back to another episode of the On Fire Empire podcast. Well, this is the last episode in our Season 2 here before we head into a brief break but don’t worry, I’ve got a few ‘tweener episodes that you’ll really enjoy, in between while we get ready to kick of Season 3.
Last year, I released a video on how to court proof your life by building in some tools like mandatory mediation or arbitration clauses into your settlement agreements and your contracts and some other nifty tips on how to stay out of court. I know many of you are business leaders and business owners, so this is something that I think is really valuable for you.
Conflict is the fastest way to lose money in your business if it’s not mastered and managed. Today, I want to share an encore presentation of that audio, right here on the On Fire Empire. It’s a perfect segue to follow up last week’s episode and give you even more high powered tools to worry less about things that you can control.

Hello my friends! Welcome back to another episode of the On Fire Empire Podcast. It’s been a while since our last episode.... but like all good things, they’re worth the wait! This episode and all others that follow with be brought to you in both audio and video.
Today I brought my old campaign sign in from when I ran for city council (and won!) back in ...well... just a few short years ago. Today, I have Lori Stone joining me in the studio. Lori is the sister of former California Senator Jeff Stone – and now she’s running for elected office. I also have Rachael Bennett, Esq. chatting with me about the interview. We reminisce about what Rachael experienced during the time I ran and how that affected her career. We’re talking women in leadership, social experiments in homelessness (Lori learned first hand what it was to be a homeless woman on the street for a day), and a few surprises you won’t want to miss.

Episode #27 – Everyone’s A Criminal! A Nice-Gal’s Nice-Guy’s Guide to Run-Ins With the Law – Part 2
The Splitting Smart Podcast
05/29/19 • 45 min
Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.
Well hello, and welcome back to the On Fire Empire podcast.
If you tuned in last week, you heard my interview with leading criminal defense attorney John Pozza. He’s a renowned attorney and, a lead vocal in his band The Forty Nineteens.
Today’s episode is Part 2 of that interview with John. We talked about normally law-abiding citizens at one time or another who find themselves interacting with the law – either being a witness to a car accident or being pulled over for speeding...or bigger issues that arise that you never thought you’d have to deal with.
We started to share scenarios that may apply to you ... or someone you know... with John giving us some really practical information on how to handle these. Last week we left off with the story of Miranda Carmichael and her husband Joe.
While Miranda was cleaning out her laptop and deleting old files when she came across several files which, to her horror, had lewd photographs and videos and children under the age of 12 engaged in sexual acts. To be clear, Joe was NOT in these pictures. Miranda wants to take the laptop to a marital counseling session with their pastor and confront Joe during the session. John Pozza weighs in on this situation now... as we start Part Two.
