07/14/20 • 61 min

The Soul Mama Podcast

Mimi Kuo Deemer is an author, yoga and Qigong instructor. She is the co-founder of Beijing’s first and leading Yoga Studio and teaches regular Yoga and Qigong classes in London. In this conversation, we speak about what we can learn from nature, how self-cultivation builds on the concept of self-care.

Mimi speaks about her personal journey of pregnancy loss, and the impact this can have on the body and a relationship. She shares what helped her heal through the shame and self-blame of multiple miscarriages to move into a place of self-compassion and wholeness.

Mimi has such an aura of calm and she speaks with such grace and clarity, I really hope you gain as much wisdom from this episode as I did.

S1/E4. Dr. Kimani Borland on Medicine, Movement and Motherhood, Beyond the Facade with1

Dr. Kimani Borland is a Naturopathic Doctor, qualified Vinyasa, and Kemetic Yoga teacher, and mother to two sons. She was born and raised in a Rasta family in Jamaica, graduated from Stanford University, and currently runs a practice in Jamaica, where she specializes in an Integrative approach to wellbeing, using herbs, nutrition, lifestyle & perspective shifts.

I loved speaking and learning more from Dr. Kimani in this conversation. We have a lot in common and although it was our first time connecting, I felt like I'd found a long lost friend. She’s humble and honest and speaks candidly about the initiation of becoming a mum for the first time at 21 and her experiences of having two very different cesarean births.

She reflects on the philosophies and foundations that set her in good stead along her path and the struggles as well as triumphs along the way. We talk about the reality for many women living in Jamaica and the Caribbean and what personally motivates her to keep going. I know her insights and assuring wisdom in this conversation will uplift you.
