The Simplifiers Podcast - B110: How to form new habits that stick
play

01/25/22 • 9 min

Let’s talk about how to form new habits that stick. Okay, okay, I’m curious... raise your hand if you were totally fired up at the beginning of this month to start afresh, change your life, or maybe flip one or two bad habits into better ones? Yup, me too. Now, keep your hand raised if you stuck with it all?

Energetically, I just felt a ton of hands went down all around the world... woof, me too! I think if we step back and zoom out a bit, we’d see that there is so much more at play here then what we thought at first glance.

Why do we, as humans, seem to have a hard time setting and sticking with new habits? Listen in to today's episode to find out why and what we can do to change that.

Happy New Year, friends - to kick things off on the right foot, here’s how to create a vision board to help guide you in the year ahead. This has been a tool I’ve used for at least the last four years and let me tell you, it works! I create mine right at the beginning of the new year and it serves as a visual guide to help me remember what is most important in my life.

Let me explain... it’s a visual representation of my core values, my desires, and my goals. Every single element I put on my vision board has been carefully picked and prayed over to ensure it feels right... and it’s actually what I want to create in the year ahead.

As such, I wanted to share my top 5 tips on creating a vision board, so if you want to make one for yourself this year, it’ll be a simple process.

Here goes...

Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to be a conscious leader. And it really got me to thinking... I don’t imagine that ANYONE sets out to be a horrible boss on purpose, right? Its just we get overwhelmed or maybe feel the pressure of hitting our numbers or maybe there’s some interoffice politics that hanging over us all like a stink cloud of yuck. Nobody wants that... here’s how to get back to center.

Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with executive leadership consultant, Karen Wilhelm Buckley as she simplifies how to be a conscious leader.

Here’s how.

My special guest today is Karen Wilhelm Buckley and she’s simplifying how to be a conscious leader.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • What the three core principles are of a “conscious leader”
    • authentic presence
    • cohesive intention
    • resonant action
  • Why you must not only have trust in yourself, but also trust in the here & now in order to maintain a higher vibration of consciousness
  • How to develop your skills as a compassionate and decisive leader, both in the “visible and invisible realms” of business
  • When mapping out your workweek, how to ensure your daily actions and strategies are connected with your core mission and vision, especially when curveballs get thrown in the mix
  • How to create breakthrough momentum in your business that creates positive change and results
  • ...and ultimately, learn how to inspire collective wisdom inside your organization to leverage new opportunities and positive growth.

It’s another week of our new way of podcasting, splitting the weekly episode up into two parts... We've been getting lots of positive feedback from you on this!

If you haven’t heard yet, we are releasing the first half now and part two on Friday this week. That way, the content is in a smaller, bite-size portion for you to listen to now, simmer on this entire week and be intentional with integrating what you learn into your everyday life.

We are simplifying our episodes to be shorter in length, easier to listen to, on-the-go.

Things have changed with the pandemic, including our old ways of listening to podcasts (either on our commute or at the gym)...and we’ve listened. Now you get shorter episodes, split into two for simpler learning.

Q: Are you ready to be a conscious leader? If yes, this one is for you.

One of the hardest things to grapple with in life is realizing when you are at the root as to why you are NOT cultivating healthy relationships. Have you ever found yourself chasing unavailable people or constantly welcoming toxic patterns in people, over and over and over again? If so, how do you break the cycle?

My special guest today is Brianne Davis and she’s simplifying how to cultivate healthy relationships, both personally and professionally. If you’ve found yourself in relationships that are flat-out exhausting or ones that make you feel ‘less than’ or never enough, this one's for you. Brianne helps light a way out of that destructive behavior by sharing what she’s learned over her lifetime as a sex & love addict.

Here’s how.

My special guest today is author Brianne Davis and she’s simplifying how to cultivate healthy relationships.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • Maybe the best way to tackle this topic is to define what an UNHEALTHY relationship looks and feels like, first. What the warning signs are that you might be in an unhealthy relationship
  • Brianne’s story when she realized she was a sex and love addict - what that term means and at what point she hit rock bottom in her life
  • What the recovery process looks like for sex and love addicts, and which resources have been most valuable for her along the way
  • Why she has ‘10 rules to live by’ that help her create and maintain healthy relationships - we took a deep dive into 2-3 of them
  • ...and ultimately, how to create better boundaries for yourself in relationships, both personally and professionally.

As we wrap season four and 2021, I just wanted to say thank you for being such a devoted listener to The Simplifiers Podcast. I love doing this work and based on the 5-star reviews and feedback we’ve received recently, it sounds like we are headed in the right direction with this podcast.

As always, thank you for telling just one friend about this podcast this week and helping us grow our following around the world.

In the coming weeks in December, we’ll look back at our favorite episodes this season and then come back STRONG in 2022 with a whole new season of incredible thought leaders, authors, and interviews to help us all simplify all aspects of our work and life.

Earlier this week, we shared part one of this conversation, all about how to tackle mansplaining in the workplace. My goodness, what a HOT TOPIC that one was for y’all! There is nothing more cringy than when it happens to someone nearby, huh? And it’s no fun to be on the receiving end of it either. Not an easy topic to simplify but one worth examining as a collective to dismantle it for good.

Now, if you haven’t heard part one, go back and listen to that one first. But if you’re ready to continue on, let’s pick back up here with my conversation with gender equity expert Dr. Kimberly DeSimone as she simplifies how to tackle mansplaining in the workplace.

It’s time to simplify...

Here’s how.

My special guest today is Dr. Kimberly DeSimone and she’s simplifying how to tackle mansplaining in the workplace.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • First things first, she defines the term ‘mansplaining’ and how it’s different from someone being condescending or just interrupting. She tells us a bit of the history behind this phenomenon, culturally, especially in American culture
  • Why some people discount mansplaining when it occurs and what a better response might be
  • What the three things you can do to interrupt this bad behavior either when it happens to you or someone on your team
    • Acknowledgment
    • Amplification
    • Allyship
  • How to respond when mansplaining happens to you from a prospective client vs. your vendors/suppliers vs. your team members/subordinates
  • ...and ultimately, she shared some clever strategies to help you be prepared and avoid getting flustered when it happens.

Thanks again for being such a devoted listener to The Simplifiers Podcast. You know me, I don’t shy away from the hard topics to simplify... I find they make for the most challenging and engaging conversations!

When you hear an episode like today’s on the podcast that potentially pokes a nerve, talk about it with someone else.

The Simplifiers Podcast - 213: How to stick to your boundaries - with Terri Cole (REPLAY)
play

12/21/21 • 59 min

Are you finding it harder and harder these days to stick to your boundaries? Whether it’s a lack of physical space at your house (hello, homeschooling)... or a lack of breathing room and space in your calendar, causing you to overwork, strive, and feel flustered with it all. Or maybe it’s a Boundary Destroyer in your life, which is a whole other ball of wax.

My special guest today is psychotherapist Terri Cole and she’s simplifying how to stick to your boundaries. In her book, Boundary Boss: The Essential Guide to Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free is a must-read for me and so many girlfriends of mine as we are looking to break free from the nonsense. And more importantly, live a more authentic, fulfilled life by mastering how we create and maintain healthy boundaries.

Here’s how.

My special guest today is Terri Cole and she’s simplifying how to stick to your boundaries.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • Through her research, what she found are some common myths that women believe when setting boundaries
  • What the psychological aspect is behind why we DON’T set boundaries for ourselves? What’s happening, really?
  • How to understand what your internal ‘Boundary Blueprint’ is and how to communicate our desired (more positive) boundaries are to other people
  • In a work setting, what to do if you’re afraid you’ll be seen as a “bitch” or if you fear being fired by your client after you state your boundaries
  • And ultimately, at home... what you must do when it’s a family member (a parent, spouse or child) who you cannot remove from your life entirely and you’re having to constantly state and restate your boundaries all the time?

Terri is a brilliant bright light in this field of study and she’s going to show us a better way of sticking to our boundaries. In our conversation today, you’ll gain a glimmer into her work, teaching each of us how to stop abandoning ourselves for the sake of others without guilt or drama. But rather, she shows us a way that healthy boundaries can help us gain better communication and better relationships... more satisfaction, abundance, and success. All of it is a result of doing the work, gaining clarity on our subconscious beliefs, and sticking to our boundaries.

Q: Are you ready to learn how to stick to your boundaries better? If yes, this one is for you.

Would you like to take your yoga practice deeper? If you've ever practiced yoga for any period of time, I bet you've learned a couple of things... it's not about the designer leggings or the cool accessories or a fancy mat.

It's not about the music or the sweat pouring down your body or the temperature in the room. It's not about the weight you lose or the muscles you gain that matters. It's about the practice... and how what you learn on your mat helps you process everything that happens **OFF** your mat, as well.

My special guest today is Kori Hahn and she’s simplifying how to take your yoga practice deeper. She believes that this is the secret to creating a truly meaningful life.

Here’s how.

My special guest today is Kori Hahn and she’s simplifying how to take your yoga practice deeper.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • Why she believes it’s important to have rituals in your life for your wellbeing
  • What role having a yoga practice can play in becoming a more intuitive person and how it can help you through relationship issues
  • How she defines a “modern and meaningful life” - especially now
  • If your self-worth is having a bit of a wobble, how yoga can help you redefine and realign your identity
  • ...and ultimately, we do a short session of yoga nidra together (which you too can take part in!) and we’ll learn how it could help during seasons of grief, heartbreak, or difficult times.

Are you looking to generate sales from your social media accounts? Let’s face it - things have changed on social media recently, especially through the pandemic. People are using it differently and brands (like yours) also need to approach it differently as well.

My special guest today is the CEO of ManyChat, Mike Yan and he’s simplifying how to generate sales from social media. When we strip back the many layers of why people are so attracted to using social media, especially on their phones, we realize one common truth: we all seek connection. Mike presents a compelling argument for why so many small businesses are using social media (completely) wrong these days. But rather... there's actually a simpler way to deepen client and customer relationships on these platforms without allocating more time, money, or effort.

Here’s how.

My special guest today is Mike Yan and he’s simplifying how to generate sales from social media.

We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including:

  • What’s changed with social media marketing nowadays, due to the pandemic or how people use social media now
  • Why he believes that Instagram is the one to focus on and build right now
  • He defines chat marketing (as in, focusing on DM messaging as a marketing approach)... and how to create a chat marketing strategy that will generate sales
  • How to track the metrics to ensure your efforts are converting social media fans into paying clients
  • ...and ultimately, if you’re feeling like, “ugh... not another new thing to learn!” - here’s how to overcome any resistance to learning new technologies.

We are going strong with our new way of podcasting, splitting the weekly episode up into two parts... so we are going to keep it that way for now!

If you haven’t heard yet, we are releasing the first half now and part two on Friday this week. That way, the content is in a smaller, bite-size portion for you to listen to now, simmer on this entire week and be intentional with integrating what you learn into your everyday life.

I know we all are on-the-go these days and our old ways of listening to podcasts (either on our commute or at the gym) have changed since the pandemic began... let us know if you like this new way of listening to The Simplifiers Podcast. Shorter episodes, split into two for simpler learning.

The Simplifiers Podcast - B109: How to visualize a new path for your life
play

01/11/22 • 11 min

Let’s do a guided visualization exercise together: here’s how to visualize a new path for your life. Something that I love doing with my coaching clients is to lead them through guided visualization exercises and the thought occurred to me, “why not do these on the podcast, as well?!” So in today’s mini episode, I’m going to lead you through a guided meditation and visualization that’s going to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers.

Listen and participate in a guided visualization exercise: how to visualize a new path for your life. One final whisper

This year, I want to encourage you to remember... most answers that you seek are already inside you now. Whether you believe in God or a higher power or something else at play here, just remember this deep inner wisdom can be found inside you now... and any time you feel lost, overwhelmed or stressed.

Just slow down, tune in with your body and your breath, do this visualization exercise whenever you need it, and ask.

Gone are the days of looking outside yourself for a magic pill or a guru on a pedestal to fix us.

This year, consider the simple idea that your Intuition knows. Your body knows. Your brain and your heart know. And it’s all waiting for you to simply ask, trust, and then decide to take daily, imperfect action by making Bold Asks.

To visualize a new path for your life, it’s just a matter of slowing down and listening to what your soul truly wants and where Source truly needs you next.

You can do this, I believe in you.

It’s time to SIMPLIFY.
