The Wounded Healer
As we join the nation in celebrating National Recovery Month this September, we dedicate this episode to promoting and supporting recovery practices, honoring the vibrant recovery community, and focusing on the importance of recovery for caregivers. Many of our caregivers are wounded healers, and we want to thank them for their service while encouraging them to care for themselves. I'm thrilled to have my guest and friend, Dr. Omar Reda, with me today. Dr. Reda is a board-certified psychiatrist, Harvard-trained trauma expert, humanitarian, and author who has devoted much of his career to helping people recover from psychological trauma.
In this episode, we will define the concept of the wounded healer, explore its historical roots, discuss modern-day healers, examine the wounded healer's gifts, and conclude with a discussion on balancing helping others with self-care.

Beyond Elections: Why We Need SALT Communities Now More Than Ever
As we move beyond this election, I’m struck by the human tendency to seek a "savior" in our political leaders. This desire often springs from deep psychological, social, and cultural needs—a willingness to hope for redemption in difficult times, a search for meaning amid life’s big questions, and a yearning for community and belonging through shared beliefs. We project personal aspirations onto idealized figures, reinforced by cultural narratives that shape our understanding of salvation. Yet, as a SALT community, we recognize that true transformation arises from serving, affirming, and loving ourselves and others. We believe that by committing to uplift and support one another, we can find strength together in a chaotic world.
