09/04/24 • 37 min

As we join the nation in celebrating National Recovery Month this September, we dedicate this episode to promoting and supporting recovery practices, honoring the vibrant recovery community, and focusing on the importance of recovery for caregivers. Many of our caregivers are wounded healers, and we want to thank them for their service while encouraging them to care for themselves. I'm thrilled to have my guest and friend, Dr. Omar Reda, with me today. Dr. Reda is a board-certified psychiatrist, Harvard-trained trauma expert, humanitarian, and author who has devoted much of his career to helping people recover from psychological trauma.
In this episode, we will define the concept of the wounded healer, explore its historical roots, discuss modern-day healers, examine the wounded healer's gifts, and conclude with a discussion on balancing helping others with self-care.

The SALT TALK with Jermine Alberty - Beyond Elections: Why We Need SALT Communities Now More Than Ever
play

11/07/24 • 7 min

As we move beyond this election, I’m struck by the human tendency to seek a "savior" in our political leaders. This desire often springs from deep psychological, social, and cultural needs—a willingness to hope for redemption in difficult times, a search for meaning amid life’s big questions, and a yearning for community and belonging through shared beliefs. We project personal aspirations onto idealized figures, reinforced by cultural narratives that shape our understanding of salvation. Yet, as a SALT community, we recognize that true transformation arises from serving, affirming, and loving ourselves and others. We believe that by committing to uplift and support one another, we can find strength together in a chaotic world.

play

12/12/24 • 35 min

As Season II of The SALT Talk with Jermine Alberty draws to a close, I’m honored to share a piece of the journey that started it all—my very first, never-before-released podcast episode. After sitting in the archives, this hidden gem is finally ready to see the light of day.

In this deeply moving and inspiring conversation, I sit down with my dear friend Hope Hyder for a reflection on life’s pivotal lessons.

Together, we explore the wisdom born from navigating challenges, the shared weight of personal trauma, and the transformative journey toward recovery. It’s a conversation laced with heartfelt laughter, honest vulnerability, and moments of profound healing.

Recorded in 2022, as the world cautiously stepped out of the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, this dialogue offers a lens into the resilience required to rebuild in times of uncertainty. Hope’s reflections on being "SALTY" in this world—Serving, Affirming, Loving, and Transforming—add even greater depth to this exchange, reminding us of the power of compassion and connection in the face of adversity.

This conversation wasn’t just a dialogue; it was a catalyst. It was the spark that inspired me to create The SALT Talk Podcast. Tune in to experience the raw authenticity of the moment that started it all and celebrate the journey of resilience and hope.

During this podcast, listeners were encouraged to call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Since then, the number has been simplified to 988, making it easier to access support. If you are feeling suicidal or need help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone, and help is available.

Welcome to another episode of The SALT Talk with Jermine Alberty! We are thrilled you have joined us for this special episode on International Happiness Day!

Today, we’re talking about something that touches all of us—happiness. But more than just feeling good, we’re diving deep into the idea of having power over your happiness—how to attain it, sustain it, and protect it from the pressures of life and the expectations of others.

Happiness isn’t just about fleeting joy or temporary satisfaction—it’s about cultivating a deep sense of contentment and peace. But here’s the challenge: how often do we allow other people, secrets, or even the pressure to imitate others steal our happiness?

We are excited to explore this with two incredible friends and guests today:

  • Rev. Janice Green, who will share profound insights about the emotional and spiritual burden of keeping secrets—and how that burden can weigh down our happiness.
  • Rev. Antoine Roston Sr., who will speak to the importance of authenticity and how the temptation to imitate others can rob us of true joy and peace.
