The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 20
Host: Rebecca Twomey
@theradiantmission Co-Host: Rachel Smith
Guest: Carrie Flanagan

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 20 we talk with Carrie Flanagan. She is a musician and health expert that healed her body by focusing on the mitochondria. By rising with the sun, changing her diet, and using supplements, Carrie was able to heal her histamine issues.

In This Episode on The Sun is Our Greatest Healer with Carrie Flanagan:

  • Carrie’s health journey
    • Was consumed in toxic diet culture.
    • Began to have histamine responses to foods.
    • She began working with a mitochondria expert but quickly realized there is no one-size-fits-all healing method. Our bodies are so intricately made that one method is not right for all.
    • There’s so much information out there that it’s difficult to know what’s even true.
    • For example, most of us grew up being told that sunscreen from the grocery store was a must any time we went into the sun. We’re told that the sun will give us cancer, give us wrinkles, and worse. Today, we’re finding out that these sunscreen products are actual toxic. They contain endocrine disrupters and can cause cancer.
  • The sun is our greatest healer.
    • Carrie began rising with the sun. She wore blue light blocking glasses in the evenings and avoided screens.
    • Context is everything. Carrie does not recommend staring at the sun. There are so many nutrients in the morning rays that you could actually get sick by looking into it. A great place to start is by cracking your window open, then working your way up.
    • Allow the sun to touch your skin and eyes, or a minimum your bare eyes (no contacts, no glasses, no sunglasses). When you allow the infrared light into your eyes in the morning, that signals to your melatonin that it’s time to go to sleep. This then downloads to your body how much melatonin your body will need to fall asleep that night. It’s all very synchronistic and why the sunrise is very powerful.
    • It’s about incremental steps and changes.
  • Who can benefit from sunlight?
    • Everyone!
    • Mitochondria is in every part of your body. Sunlight allows us to charge our mitochondria—it’s about the sun’s light. Our bodies are like computers, and the sun is our charger.
    • Our culture today demonizes the sun. We’ve lost some of the ancient knowledge about the sun.
    • “Let your life by thy medicine.”
    • Our bodies are the most technologically advance quantum computers that exist. Science is trying to reverse engineer the human body, but it’s void of the breath of God.

Bible Verses Mentioned:

  • Genesis 1:1-5

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 19
Host: Rebecca Twomey
@theradiantmission Co-Host: Rachel Smith
Guest: Paula Carper

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 19 we continue the conversation with special guest, Paula Carper. She is a registered dietician and expert on women’s hormones. In today’s episode we discuss supplements, toxic diet culture, the microbiome, transforming health, and healing.

In This Episode on Our Bodies Are Miracles: Supplements, Toxic Diet Culture, & Healing with Paula Carper:

  • Vitamins, Minerals, & Supplements
    • When we take vitamin C, we’re taking ascorbic acid. Whole food vitamin C will certainly be best, as with any supplement.
    • However, it’s important to be aware that taking any supplement, even naturally, in high doses without context, isn’t always what’s best for our bodies.
  • Toxic Diet Culture
    • The diet culture and health and fitness industry often promote a one-size-fits-all attitude.
    • We tend to equate weight loss with health. This is because we’re being marketed to. When we step away from that merry go round, we can recognize the enemy in toxic diet culture. The reality is that we’re playing someone else’s game. We can step back and say “what game do I want to play? What’s the drum beat I want to march to?” This is where Paula is passionate. Helping women find their own way. Women are often told what to do and not to listen to their own intuition.
    • BMI was invented by a statistician as a way to gather data, it was never meant to be used as a barometer of health. This attitude keeps women stuck.
  • The Liver & the Stomach Microbiome
    • There is so much data that’s come out about the microbiome. We know that there is a lot of diversity in the microbiome. It’s about restoring restoring balance. In general, it can take 6-12 months, with 9-12 months minimum to truly restore gut dysbiosis and other issues.
    • Your overall environment, sleep, stress, and other factors can influence the microbiome. Our overall environment is really upside down and completely different from the environment we were intended to live in (a garden). How our bodies interact with that impacts our overall health. Illnesses, chronic illnesses, traumas, stress, and more.
    • God made our bodies to heal. We are currently in a fallen world and while we’re in this fallen state, it’s impacted our food, lifestyles, stress levels, ability to be out in the outdoor environment He created. The keys are there, we just have to find them because He designed us to miraculously heal and thrive.

Bible Verses Mentioned:

3 John 1:2

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”

The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 21
Host: Rebecca Twomey
@theradiantmission Co-Host: Rachel Smith
Guest: Carrie Flanagan

Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.

In Episode 21 we continue where we left off in Episode 20 with Carrie Flanagan on the sun, natural health, today’s modern day health care system, and a brief introduction to Pharmakeia.

In This Episode on The Sun, Natural Health, & Awakening to Pharmakeia with Carrie Flanagan with Carrie Flanagan:

  • The Sun & Natural Health
    • If you don’t live in an area where you’re getting Vitamin D year-round, your body will recognize this and store Vitamin D in your body for the months where you don’t get Vitamin D.
    • Even in Naturopathic medicine, it can become burdensome. We have a tendency to over-supplement and sometimes we just need a bit of simplicity.
    • Beef Liver contains Vitamin K and other essential B vitamins that we don’t often get enough of.
  • Finding the Right Care Practitioners
    • Rebecca went through a 2–3-year journey to figure out an allergic reaction. She is highly allergic to Red 4, also known as Carmine. It is a red dye that is made from the cochineal beetle.
    • Many doctors have the “God complex” today and are doing a disservice to their patients. We, the patients, are in charge of our bodies. We are hiring medical professionals, not the other way around. It’s important that we interview any practitioner that we are considering working with and asking them qualifying questions.
    • We know our bodies better than any other human could know our bodies. God gave us an intuition for a reason!
    • Rachel interviewed an OBGYN and discovered that their comfort takes priority. There is a lack of partnership in modern healthcare.
  • Introduction to Pharmakeia
    • Pharmakeia. Definition:
      • 1. The use or the administering of drugs
      • 2. Poisoning
      • 3. Sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it
    • Every pharmaceutical product we take has a tradeoff. It is important that we consider the potential side effects for anything we might take.
    • Example: Zofran. It is often given to pregnant women for nausea but this use is technically off label as it has not been approved by the FDA for use during pregnancy. Women have sued GlaxoSmithKline for babies born with heart defects, cleft palate and skull deformities.
    • As consumers, it’s important that we do our own research.

Bible Verses Mentioned:

Psalm 121:5-7

“The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.”
