The Radiant Mission
04/16/24 • 47 min
When Lindsey first stepped through the doors of a Planned Parenthood clinic as an intern, she didn't expect her entire worldview to unravel. Yet, it was here, amidst the convergence of politics, ideology, and raw human emotion, that she began a journey that would challenge the very core of her beliefs about feminism, choice, and life itself. Our Radiant Mission podcast is honored to share the extraordinary narrative of a former radical feminist and Master of Social Work graduate as she navigates the treacherous waters of personal transformation and finds anchorage in the harbors of spirituality and a belief in God.
The tapestry of Lindsey's life is woven with threads from her childhood, her bold embrace of activism, and the profound revelations that arose during her time at Planned Parenthood. Her story is not one of political discourse but a vulnerable examination of autonomy and agency. As she recounts her experiences and the encounters that reshaped her understanding, we gain a unique insight into the complexities of college women's perceptions of abortion and the critical nature of informed consent. The weight of these realities, once obscured, becomes glaringly evident as Lindsey peels back the layers of emotion and ethics entangled in the choice of terminating a pregnancy.
In a concluding reflection, this episode traverses the emotional landscape that follows such a decision, revealing Lindsey's path to truth and a newfound reverence for life. Her spiritual awakening after witnessing an abortion illuminates our discussion, merging science, morality, and faith. Join us on The Radiant Mission Podcast as we unravel the powerful influence of celebrity idolization, focusing on Taylor Swift's evolution and the unsettling trend towards darker themes in Hollywood. As co-hosts and sisters, Rebecca Twomey and Rachel Smith share personal stories of admiration for Swift, urging parents to carefully consider the media their children consume within Christian communities. The discussions weave through the impact of celebrities like Swift and Sam Smith on young fans, raising important questions about the values and messages being internalized.
Celebrity culture and modern-day witchcraft—an unusual connection, but one that begs deeper exploration. We venture into the whimsical yet controversial world of magic and witchcraft as we link the mesmerizing effect of Swift's music, particularly her song "Enchanted," to mystical imagery often associated with witchcraft. Through nostalgic reflections on the release of "1989," we challenge our listeners to consider the subconscious messages conveyed by popular music and their potential effects on personal beliefs and behaviors.
Music has the power to shape emotions, especially for children, and our candid conversation reflects on this profound impact. We recount how Taylor Swift's album "Speak Now" resonated during personal struggles, illustrating how music can influence emotions and behaviors. As explicit content becomes more prevalent, we stress the importance of vigilance in curating what young listeners are exposed to. Our reflections not only navigate the complex topics of music consumption and celebrity influence but also strive to inspire discernment in a world saturated with powerful media messages.

134. Who Is God?
The Radiant Mission
04/15/25 • 11 min
What if every breath you take whispers the name of God? In the premiere episode of our Coffee Talk series, we're tackling humanity's most profound question: Who is God? This isn't just theological theory—it's the foundation that shapes how we understand ourselves and navigate our world.
Diving into Scripture, we explore the fascinating paradox of God's character. How can someone be perfectly just while overflowing with mercy? We unpack this divine tension and how it finds its perfect resolution at the cross, where justice and mercy embrace without compromising either attribute.
Did you know God has a personal name? When Moses encountered the burning bush and asked who he should say sent him, God revealed himself as Yahweh—"I AM WHO I AM." This name, when pronounced without vowels, resembles the sound of breathing, suggesting that every breath connects us to our Creator. Some researchers have even noted intriguing connections between the structure of human DNA and the numerical values of YHWH in Hebrew—as if our very cellular makeup bears the signature of our Maker.
We also confront common misconceptions that distort our understanding of God: the distant creator who remains uninvolved, the harsh judge waiting for us to fail, or the cosmic genie expected to grant our wishes without relationship. Jesus offers the perfect corrective to these false images, showing us exactly what God is like—loving, compassionate, truthful, and self-sacrificing.
Understanding God accurately transforms everything: how we see ourselves, how we face uncertainty, and how we choose to live. If you're feeling distant from God, take heart—He isn't hiding. He's revealed Himself through Scripture, creation, Jesus, and the whispers of your own life experiences.

20. The Sun is Our Greatest Healer with Carrie Flanagan
The Radiant Mission
12/06/22 • 52 min
DISCLAIMER: The information discussed in this podcast is NOT medical advice. Please speak with your health care professional about any health decisions.
The Radiant Mission Podcast | Episode 20
Host: Rebecca Twomey @theradiantmission Co-Host: Rachel Smith
Guest: Carrie Flanagan
Thank you for listening to The Radiant Mission podcast! We are on a mission to encourage and inspire you on your walk with Christ and as you journey through life.
In Episode 20 we talk with Carrie Flanagan. She is a musician and health expert that healed her body by focusing on the mitochondria. By rising with the sun, changing her diet, and using supplements, Carrie was able to heal her histamine issues.
In This Episode on The Sun is Our Greatest Healer with Carrie Flanagan:
- Carrie’s health journey
- Was consumed in toxic diet culture.
- Began to have histamine responses to foods.
- She began working with a mitochondria expert but quickly realized there is no one-size-fits-all healing method. Our bodies are so intricately made that one method is not right for all.
- There’s so much information out there that it’s difficult to know what’s even true.
- For example, most of us grew up being told that sunscreen from the grocery store was a must any time we went into the sun. We’re told that the sun will give us cancer, give us wrinkles, and worse. Today, we’re finding out that these sunscreen products are actual toxic. They contain endocrine disrupters and can cause cancer.
- The sun is our greatest healer.
- Carrie began rising with the sun. She wore blue light blocking glasses in the evenings and avoided screens.
- Context is everything. Carrie does not recommend staring at the sun. There are so many nutrients in the morning rays that you could actually get sick by looking into it. A great place to start is by cracking your window open, then working your way up.
- Allow the sun to touch your skin and eyes, or a minimum your bare eyes (no contacts, no glasses, no sunglasses). When you allow the infrared light into your eyes in the morning, that signals to your melatonin that it’s time to go to sleep. This then downloads to your body how much melatonin your body will need to fall asleep that night. It’s all very synchronistic and why the sunrise is very powerful.
- It’s about incremental steps and changes.
- Who can benefit from sunlight?
- Everyone!
- Mitochondria is in every part of your body. Sunlight allows us to charge our mitochondria—it’s about the sun’s light. Our bodies are like computers, and the sun is our charger.
- Our culture today demonizes the sun. We’ve lost some of the ancient knowledge about the sun.
- “Let your life by thy medicine.”
- Our bodies are the most technologically advance quantum computers that exist. Science is trying to reverse engineer the human body, but it’s void of the breath of God.

132. Your Body Knows How to Birth, Trust It w/Dr. Stu (Part 2)
The Radiant Mission
04/01/25 • 47 min
What if everything you thought you knew about childbirth was shaped by a system designed to doubt women's bodies rather than trust them? In this eye-opening conversation with Dr. Stu, a community birth physician supporting home births, we dive deep into how modern birthing practices often undermine what our bodies naturally know how to do.
The statistics alone should give us pause. Since 1970, C-section rates have skyrocketed from 5% to 32% in the United States—a staggering 500% increase—without corresponding improvements in maternal or infant outcomes. The World Health Organization suggests rates should be 10-15%, meaning hundreds of thousands of unnecessary surgical births happen annually. Yet remarkably, no physician admits to performing these unnecessary procedures. This cognitive dissonance permeates our entire approach to childbirth.
Dr. Stu beautifully contrasts the midwifery model, which "trusts birth and accepts uncertainty," with the medical model, which "fears birth and tries to control everything." This difference manifests in everything from the length and quality of prenatal visits to postpartum care. While hospital protocols typically schedule a single six-week postpartum check, midwives visit multiple times in the first week alone, providing crucial support during the most vulnerable period for mother and baby.
For expectant parents navigating this complex landscape, Dr. Stu offers practical wisdom: pay attention to how you feel after prenatal appointments. Do you leave feeling more confident and empowered, or more anxious and diminished? This emotional barometer can guide you toward providers who genuinely support your innate capacity to birth. Consider incorporating midwifery care into your pregnancy journey regardless of where you plan to deliver, as midwives are the true experts in normal physiological birth.
Whether you're planning your first birth, processing a previous birth experience, or supporting someone on their journey, this conversation will transform how you view the miraculous process of bringing new life into the world. Trust your body—it knows what to do.
