20 | Am I Messing Up My Kids? My Daughter Reveals What Life With an Entrepreneur Mom Is Really Like
01/23/23 • 25 min
Is it really possible to pursue a dream and motherhood at the same time? I hear a lot of women say they feel called to write a book, launch a podcast, start a business, pursue a speaking or coaching ministry... yet they’re afraid there’s no way they can manage it without sacrificing time or attention for their kids. Family is priority; therefore, their dreams must wait. Or so they fear. But is that really true?
I don’t think so. And neither does my family. In this special episode, you’ll hear from my firstborn daughter (a sophomore in high school now) about what it’s really like to live with a mom who has her head in the clouds (sometimes) or at least in her computer (most of the time), and how that has affected her upbringing. Her answers might surprise you. And they will for sure encourage you.
Highlights:
- This episode is “totes” cool (not)
- Being there matters
- Mom working from home motivates kids to become independent problem solvers
- Adapting to one another’s schedules is part of the process
- Advantages of having caregivers who aren’t Mom and Dad
- How being distracted by deadlines appears to the family
- Positives about having parents who work from home
- Perseverance, problem solving, and determination
- Demonstrating the value of doing what you love

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” (James 1:22-25)
