In-Between: Advice To My Younger Self
The In-Between with Elizabeth Cheney
08/09/23 • 46 min
This week's in-between may be titled advice to my younger self, but everything I say relates to any walk of life. So whether you're a twenty something navigating what I call "second puberty", or a thirty-something pivoting in their career, or a forty-something looking to love themself, this episode offers something to everyone.
In a nutshell, Elizabeth's advice to her younger self includes:
Overall, stop comparing yourself to others.
Relationships –
- You cannot change someone. Repeat - you cannot change someone
- You’re not responsible for anyone else's feelings
- Don’t waste your time on people who don’t treat you how you deserve
- Communication most often leads to discourse
- You’re going to meet so many people in your life; some will come in and some will leave
- Empathy and understanding will get you far but don’t be a people pleaser
Work –
- If you’re first job ends up being your dream job, good for you. For others, we might end up all over the place before we find what drives us. No one’s path is wrong or right more than someone else's, as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other
- If you're not learning or getting some sort of fullfilment from it, release it
- Write thank you emails
- NETWORK
Self –
- Remember how important it is to keep your identity separate – you can be a mother, employee, manager, sibling, daughter, podcaster, soccer player, but these things make up YOU; one role doesn’t’ solely define you nor limit you
- Don’t apologize for being you or speaking up for yourself
- Enjoy life – appreciate the small moments, the silly the sad, the high and low, don’t fall into the rat race trap of where you need to be, where you should be, and instead realize you’re where you need to be
- You are going to make mistakes, heck you might even fail, but there is value in those lessons. It’s not that failing is SUPER COOL, but we need to view failing less as the worst case scenario because it does happen, it happens often, and there is learning and self development that comes from it
- Find hobbies and interests and EXPLORE them
- Prioritize your mental health, especially if you have past trauma
- Don’t forget how much power you have. You have the strength to overcome any obstacle and drive to make your dreams come true. No one said it would be easy
- Fall in love with yourself.
I'll see you fabulous, beautiful people next week for an all new in-between!

In-Between: 2023 Review
The In-Between with Elizabeth Cheney
12/29/23 • 40 min
Hey, lovely listeners! In this week’s episode, you're about to embark on a ride through my 2023 shenanigans – the good, the not-so-good, and the ugly-good (is that thing?). Picture this: not a single one of my “BIG 3” goals were met this year - HA.
I spill the beans on my plan at the start of the year and how life went, "Oh, you thought!" From tackling job aspirations, house-hunting woes, podcast growth, and losing Luna (talk about a “end of the year” implosion), I lay it all out with the heartfelt insight and comedic flair that is my life.
Through it all, I've discovered the magic of self-confidence, learned the value of perspective, and even adulted my way through setting up a new phone plan (cue the applause). Spoiler alert: adulting is still a scam.
2023 taught me how to survive and thrive on the unexpected curveballs.
So, here's to the lessons, the laughs, the wisdom gained, and the downright BS of the past year. 2024, I'm coming for you with my vision board in one hand and an espresso in the other. Buckle up, buttercups – The In-Between is going places!

Welcome to the Women's Wellness Series! This week's episode starts things off strong.
Please welcome my new friend, financial queen, Emilie Dayan Hill. Emilie is a high net worth money manager here in Atlanta, GA. With her experience in the financial industry, Emilie created Finance That Feels. More specifically, Emilie believes in Financial Wellness, and wants women everywhere to feel empowered with their money.
In today's episode, we're talking about:
- What is Financial Success versus Financial Wellness?
- Finance Industry - why does it feel like women aren't invited? Here's a hint, statistically speaking, we're not. Emilie breaks that down more and explains how the industry tends to serve men.
- Money Wellness practices - monthly check-in; how that can break down intimidation towards taking control of your finances.
- Growth mindset versus a scarcity mindset - how can you foster a healthy growth mindset when it comes to your finances.
- Money Scripts - Money personalities we've adapted from our past and how we were raised; Emilie breaks down the four different scripts, what they mean, and how we can work on our own.
- How to cultivate Financial Wellness and find "enough."

In-Between: The Relationship with Yourself & Being a Mom w/ Jenna Cheney
The In-Between with Elizabeth Cheney
05/17/23 • 52 min
In the second episode of The In-Between's Mother's Day Series, Elizabeth brings on her cousin-in-law to talk about navigating the line between motherhood and the relationship with yourself. Jenna was in her early 20's when she had two children close together. For several years, her body was not her own between being pregnant and breast feeding. With a new role at a company she loves, she was also struggling with her identity. In this episode, Jenna unveils what was the moment that reminded her that just because she was a mom, that didn't mean she had to forget her needs and who she was as an individual. We talk about having cups - your mom cup, your wife/partner cup, your work/employee cup, but what about a cup of your own? It's about finding comfort in who you are and letting go of the guilt that society attaches to that.

Lizdom of the Week: December 3rd
The In-Between with Elizabeth Cheney
12/05/22 • 4 min
In the pursuit of more, we should pursue less. Does that sound right? According to Greg McKeown, author of Essentialism, that is exactly the idea. This week's Lizdom is a mindset shift from priorities to priority (yes, we're slimming our to-do's down to one). It's about "the pursuit of success can be a catalyst for failure" if we don't take back control of what we spend our time on.
We're getting closer to the end of the year, so maybe you're thinking about your goals for next year. Maybe you're thinking about how to close up the last few remaining goals you had set for this year. Either way, today's Lizdom will help ground yourself in your pursuit for more while doing less.

In-Between: Fear is your Friend with Noah Daniels
The In-Between with Elizabeth Cheney
11/30/22 • 54 min
We're back this week with special guest, Noah Daniels of the Real Hauntings Podcast! For those who don't know, Noah has his own spooky podcast, which I've been a guest on, as well as co-hosted several times. It's a great show with the largest audio library of first count experiences with the paranormal.
Noah and I talk about what got him started in podcasting, which opened a deep conversation about figuring out who you are while embracing the unknown. It's about being the main character in your story. This episode is full of wisdom, perseverance, combating our good ole' friend Imposter Syndrome, and never holding back on your dreams.
Oh, and we definitely hear a spooky ghost story or two. ;)
