The Healing House

The Healing House

Patricia

Hi! I'm Patty. After a “dark night of the soul" experience (a sort of existential crisis), I was inspired by books and podcasts to help other humans. Podcasts had really helped me make sense of what I was going through at the time, so I thought I'd attempt to do the same for others. In this podcast, I explore conversations that blur lines between mind, body, and spirituality to start the healing process. We’ll discuss all human things like psychology, meaning, trauma, meditation, self-care, relationships, health, and simply just existence. I hope to help you find meaning here on this whacky mysterious planet we all are on! Instagram: @mzxpatrisha

The Healing House - Awakening + The Dark Night with Jamie Munday
play

A year ago, Jamie helped me through so many questions after my awakening. This is the conversation...I've come a long way since then, not really understanding what any of it meant at the time of this conversation, but I find it extremely helpful.
The Show:
Jamie, who later became my spiritual mentor and yoga coach, is known for his YouTube channel where he explains his experience with a sudden kundalini awakening.
We discuss both of our experiences with awakening spiritually and the pain that comes with it. How do you distinguish between intuition and ego? What does a dark night feel like? We share our experience in hopes to help others going through the same.
.
.
You may have experienced a "Dark Night of the Soul" or what some call a spiritual depression. It can be described as a period of time when you are no longer your old self, but not yet your new self. It's a transition in life. Feelings of emptiness may arise or a feeling of being in "limbo". A darkness, a void of your being... You may ask questions like "Why am I here?" "What is the meaning of all of this?" "Who am I?" It can come in the existential form.
The idea is that the dark night comes to help us grow. It pulls us away from the habitual life we've been living and makes us realize we may need to change something. It commonly brings us closer to a spiritual path afterward. Of course, this is not to diagnose anyone or imply that your medical depression is a spiritual one.
Jamie, Thank you.

Here it is, the story of my own "Dark Night of the Soul": Abrupt changes in my environment, combined with unfolding deep childhood trauma in EMDR therapy, led to a spiraling existential depression. This period is what made me who I am todaystronger, healthier, and more compassionate. The purpose of my story is to transform despair into hope for those experiencing dark days, even when the tank is seemingly empty. Dark periods of life are necessary for growth and change. Just like anything that is born or grows, starts in darkness (a mother's belly, or a seed in the soil) before it is alive. Your beingness and consciousness do the same.

Meet Natalia Rodriquez Arango! One of my favorite yoga teachers at Reunify Yoga in San Diego, CA who helped facilitate the teacher training I attended back in 2022. She is a 1,000HR yoga teacher, PYT (professional yoga therapist), holistic health coach, movement specialist, human anatomist PT, herbalist, and essential oil connoisseur. She is a “Jill of all Trades" if you will. From yoga teacher training to making holistic teas and oils, to drawing anatomy pictures, and facilitating stretch therapy/ assisted stretching, she is quite the scholar and diverse teacher in the studio. There is a lot to learn from her as we discuss just the brim of what she knows about breath, pelvic floor yoga, and her story!

A beautiful conversation I decided to dig up from last year with my yoga teaching instructor, Nikki.

Nikki Rae Bose was the first yoga instructor that I received yoga from after my move to San Diego, CA at her studio- Reunify Yoga. Her teachings caught my eye when I heard her interweave Advaita and “self-inquiry” meditation throughout the physical practice of yoga (asana). Overtime, I became intrigued with this traditional style of yoga and eventually was a front desk girl for Reunify. Fast track a few years later, and she became the woman who taught me my first 200 hours of yoga teacher training! Sending me off into the world as a hatha, vinyasa, and yin yoga instructor.

Nikki started her journey career-wise as a molecular biologist, originally from Chicago. She

found love in yoga throughout her travels in Asia and India, later becoming a 500 hour yoga instructor. Her amazing ability to teach poetically, yet authentically while spitting the seeds of traditional yoga philosophy is an incredible experience.I feel so lucky to have had her train me into my first yoga teacher certification.

In this podcast, we discuss her early life, the seeds of yoga, how yoga can be the center point of attraction into our awakening lives as we listen to our intuition.

Sunny Jo Lawrence, is the wife of James Lawrence, who first completed 50 consecutive IRONMAN triathlons then went onto complete 101 triathlons in a row, back to back, yes...you're right...he did 1 IRONMAN per day for that many days. She discusses with me the inner strength it took for her to trust the process of life during the support of her husband as well as the days where they didn't think he'd make it alive.
We discuss redefining mental toughness and inner strength when it comes to purpose and doing things that are HARD but that drive you.
This is for the go-getters, the high achievers, the one with big dreams that have a deep calling but don't know how to hear it or trust it is the right thing.

In this incredible episode, I interview Nicolas Canon from Bogota, Colombia on a beginners guide to Ayahuasca. If you’ve been curious about plant medicine or just want to know more about it, in particular ceremonial ayahuasca, Nico is an astounding and experienced mentor that has sat through 100s of ceremonies with Ayahuasca.
He, like many of us, transitioned through many identities throughout life. First, a shy boy as a kid that later led to a hyper- masculine personality to prove his worth as an adult, indulging in alcoholism, women, and desires. He eventually launched a tattoo business and thought life was at its peak (been there myself) and naturally when we follow all our ego’s desires, not our hearts desires, we come to a point on the spiritual path where we feel it is not enough.
This dark night of the soul for Nico, was a catalyst for a new search, where he found a shaman and tried ayahuasca. Throughout his journey with shamanism and plant medicine he was able to peel away layers of this boyish ego, purging his juvenile mask of proving himself, and stepped into the role as a mentor for relationships, coaching, and facilitating ceremonies. His work primarily focuses on being honest with ourselves, engaging in relationships from truth rather than ego, and helps empower others to provide a practical way of living a better life. Throughout his experiences with ayahuasca he integrates ancestral indigenous and shamanic wisdom that was passed down to him.
He is quite the amazing being, his Instagram posts are spot on and RAW, teaching others to be honest and intuitive, instead of bypassing and disconnecting. Very much similar to a Taoist or Non-dualistic approach, when there is no other way but THE way it really is.

In this podcast we discuss:

  • If you wait, to be ready by the time you are ready...you won't need it
  • If there is fear then there is something that needs to be released
  • Who shouldn't do it
  • When you know you are ready
  • Masculine and feminine
  • Flow shows you where your stuck
  • Shaman ceremony
  • Autoimmune disease
  • How things manifest in the body
  • Relationships

The Healing House - How to Let Go and Fall in Love with the Present Moment

In this short episode, I discuss the most important lesson I've learned on this earth in my search for internal peace- letting go. In all spiritual teachings I've explored there was one common ground, presence. The present moment is always here. Even memory of the past and visions of the future take place in the present moment mind. If we could become totally in love with what is happening right now, at every moment, how could our lives change? By letting go of things that we can not control, we totally surrender to miracles and surprises of life. We let it flow through us with emptiness so we can be full. It is difficult in this society to let go of mind and not always have a "plan". But contrary to popular belief, we do not need a plan to live life. Life is here for us now. If we can drop the mind for just a second and be here fully, maybe we can finally feel peace for the first time, right here and now.

Kevin Crenshaw's unique way of coaching allows others to truly see how embedded trauma can be on our nervous system. These imprints may be affecting the relationship we have with ourselves and others. This beautiful conversation allows others to understand that trauma can interfere with discernment, choice, and how we see a relationship. Chaos leads to dopamine addiction that doesn't look like your normal "addiction". Addiction can be hiding in relationships and "feel good" moments too.

The Wim Hof Method was designed by Wim Hof, who broke world records for withstanding cold temperatures via a meditative breathing method. This breathing method is now used all over the world to increase immunity, control heart rate, and help reduce anxiety/depression.

Brandon Powell is a level 3 certified Wim Hof Method Instructor and has trained with Wim Hof personally. He’s also a professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fitness & self-defense coach, and the owner of "On PHYR" in North Carolina. He was my instructor for the Wim Hof fundamentals course in Connecticut and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for his wisdom on this internationally known method.
In this episode, we discuss what the Wim Hof Method is, how it works, what physiologically happens in the body, routine, and the importance of connection.

Warning - please read carefully:

The breathing exercise has a profound effect and should be practiced in the way it is explained. Always do the breathing exercise in a safe environment (e.g. sitting on a couch/floor) and unforced.

Never practice the exercises before or during diving, driving, swimming, taking a bath or in any other environment/place where should you pass out, a serious injury could occur. Wim Hof breathing may cause tingling sensations and/or lightheadedness. If you’ve fainted, it means that you went to far. Take a step back next time.

The cold is a powerful force. We strongly advise to gradually build up exposing yourself to the cold. Always train without force and listen to your body carefully. If it is not practiced responsible, there is a risk of hypothermia.

Do not practice the method during pregnancy or when having epilepsy. Persons with cardiovascular health issues, or any other (serious) health conditions, should always consult a medical doctor before starting with the Wim Hof Method.
