Emotions in the Moment
Moms trying to keep their emotions in check in those moments when the family's emotional intensity is really high or one of the kids are having a meltdown, this episode is for you. While we can get pretty good at holding it together and we think white-knuckling it is the way to keep the situation from escalating, actually there is a better way. I share three ways I think about emotions that helped me accept that feeling our feelings is healthier than suppressing them. Next, as for the thoughts that moms often think in the meltdown moments, I offer some alternatives that generate emotions of empathy and compassion, and even curiosity, which are so much more useful, and interrupt that escalation cycle. My final tip and tool shared is the Safety Plan. This template can be completed and kept on hand for families where safety issues come up. The thought "we have a plan for this," is one that brings a sense of calm and clear-thinking when we need it most.

Integrity and Hardwoods
Here's a fun little episode with a story with a moral to it. This short true story packs in the value of telling the truth to ourselves, recognizing when we want to feel better instead of just feeling what we feel, and also illustrates the concept of forced acceptance, which is really not acceptance at all.
