A Story of Healing: Pregnancy & Infant Loss
10/14/21 • 16 min
The month of October is Pregnancy Loss and Infant Loss Awareness Month and October 15, 2021 is Pregnancy Loss and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. While I did not experience a miscarriage, I know so many, many moms who have. As for infant loss, I did have that painful experience. It was not until today however, when I was asked to share my story in a room of moms nearly 30 years after the day when our firstborn baby girl was born and died, did I experience the next stage of healing from this loss. This showed me how important telling our stories with people who have earned the right to hear them - because they can safely hold judgement-free space for us - how important that is for our healing. Collectively, when we gather together in safe spaces and share our stories fully, we can begin to break down stigma. We can take shame out of the stories. This is one topic, one experience, and one story that I hope does that for just one mom who may need to hear it today. XO
