January 2013, Yuba City, CA. In a small town north of Sacramento, CA, 94-year old Leola Shreves was found dead in her home by her son-in-law. Windows were broken and Leola had been badly beaten. After only a few months, police arrested and obtained a confession from Leola’s neighbor, Michael Alexander. Ultimately the charges against Alexander were dropped after DNA evidence vindicated him from the false confession. Six years after Leola’s death, familial DNA tracing led to the arrest and conviction of Armando Cuadras.
