In Entry 6 of The Eating Disorder Diaries, Amy sits down with Lydia Rhino and Sabrina Scanga, two Program Directors at The Eating Disorder Foundation (EDF), a non-profit organization that started with a single support group devoted to the families and friends of those suffering from eating disorders. In the 20 years since it's been established, EDF has evolved into much more than a single support group. Amy attends a weekly eating disorder support group at EDF, and it quickly became a major lifeline and tool for her in her recovery journey.
Lydia and Sabrina talk about all of the services EDF offers and they discuss the structure of support groups for those who don’t know what to expect, both in-person and virtual (their virtual groups are available for anyone in the world to attend!). They also highlight the bills they are working to pass in Colorado to change the outdated practices we currently have with eating disorder treatment.
In a nutshell...eating disorder support groups can absolutely change your life and are available for anyone, anywhere!

Sabrina and Lydia's recommendations:

  • Help fight eating disorders in underrepresented communities with FEDUP.
  • Find access to resources and opportunities to heal from your ED with Project HEAL.
  • Work out and wiggle your booty with Sabrina and The Fitness Marshall.

Follow along with the status of the bills EDF is working to pass in Colorado:

  • Protections for people with an eating disorder: SB 23-176
  • Disordered eating prevention: SB 23-014

Sit down with Amy for a solo episode in Entry 12, where she talks about what she's learned after researching more about anorexia. While her specific struggles in the past have revolved around bulimia, the eating disorders share a lot of commonalities. She talks about different types of eating disorders (from AFRID to OSFED to UFED), anorexia and binge eating disorder statistics and ways that she's helped strengthen her mind in recovery from bulimia that she feels can also be applied to those suffering from anorexia and binge eating disorder.

In Entry 18, Amy sits down with Cindy Spratt, a holistic nutritionist who is real food based, specializing in eating psychology, eating disorders, body image, and culinary & functional nutrition. Cindy's story is fascinating and inspiring: now a mom to a 15 year old son living her purpose to serve others who have struggled with disordered eating and body image, Cindy talks about her own past with growing up with an obsession of being thin that quickly turned into a full-fledged eating disorder. After being diagnosed with cancer in her early 30s, she turned a completely new leaf and started her journey of non-stop learning, healing, and teaching others what she has learned. She's also celebrating 13+ years being cancer free, and is an absolute gem of a human to listen to and learn from.
