Public Leaders, PR, and Getting it Done
When we think about public leadership, we are all likely to have different reactions...different thoughts and visuals that come to mind. Some of us may have a warm, positive feelings associated with the term public leadership and others well, it may be a different story all together.
Here’s the thing my friends, public leadership encompasses a whole slew of leadership roles and activities ranging from your local PTO and HOA to the federal government and beyond. This is why this area tends to elicit such varied reactions.
So considering the vast differences in public leadership, how the heck do we tie these roles together? What are some communicative activities that unite them?
Put simply: Influence
Whether you are a member of the local chamber of commerce and you’re trying to gain support for your new dining in the streets initiative or if you’re the president of the US, in order to be successful you need to be able to influence the attitudes and behaviors of your constituents.
- How do we connect with various stakeholder groups?
- How do we effect change?
- How do we sway opinions?
We integrate leadership and persuasive communication with elements of public relations – impression management and credibility for example.
In this episode of The Communicative Leader, we look at the link between leadership, PR, and credible communication.

What does this mean?
It means we need to stretch and flex and adapt our leadership and our communication to fit this brave new world.
So how do we do it? How do we bring that connection and responsiveness and authenticity into the hybrid environment? Well, we look to organizational change leadership experts like Vanessa Hills to shine some light onto the topic.
Vanessa shares her model of virtual dialogic communication with us. Yeah, yeah, yeah...dialogic communication is an academic term, but Vanessa walks us through how it applies to us now.
Whether you work from home, work from the office, or a hybrid of the two, Vanessa's suggestions will help make your work life what you want it to be.
