075 How to Build Rapport
The Coaching Crowd® Podcast with Jo Wheatley & Zoe Hawkins
02/06/23 • 21 min
In this week's episode we are talking about building rapport with your coaching clients. We get asked about this alot so thought it would be a good subject to address as rapport building looks quite different when developing it personally rather than professionally.
We discuss:
- what rapport is and the role it plays when coaching
- when rapport building begins
- where rapport is built
- how it is built through tone of voice and body language to name a few
- the role of curiosity, listening and deep inquiry
- how important calibration is to rapport building
- the power of rapport with self
Rapport is an important part of the coaching relationship and needs to be considered in every second of the coaching session and we can understand that the rapport building process can begin long before a person even becomes a client. So, intentionally building rapport at all stages of the process is so important.

073 Overcoming barriers to learning
The Coaching Crowd® Podcast with Jo Wheatley & Zoe Hawkins
01/23/23 • 21 min
In this week's episode we are discussing overcoming barriers to learning. When learning as an adult we acknowledge that there are lots of reasons that barriers might occur
We talk about:
- some of the beliefs people have that hold them back from learning
- how barriers can often be invisible or held without the student knowing
- clear barriers to learning that a student is able to articulate from a poor experience in childhood in the classroom through to identifiable learning needs
- the importance of identity and safety
- how we can help clients to identify resistance and barriers
- how we can help people to build in confidence in you as a coach
It is important to be able to identify your own barriers to learning as well as supporting others to identify and overcome them. Our beliefs around learning can be detrimental to our desire to learn so it is important that we take as many barriers into account as possible. In making our courses accessible we are giving our students or coachees an opportunity to have a positive experience and thrive.

071 Coaching Imposter Syndrome
The Coaching Crowd® Podcast with Jo Wheatley & Zoe Hawkins
01/09/23 • 23 min
In this week's episode we are talking about something that we hear about a lot from our coachees but also from our coaches. We wonder if it’s something that you might have experienced too. Let’s explore imposter syndrome and how we coach through this.
We discuss:
- The universal experience that is felt through imposter syndrome
- How we can, as coaches, to be triggered into feeling like an imposter
- What can make us feel like an imposter?
- Is the word syndrome an accurate representation of what is happening?
- The role emotions play in our coaching conversations
- How can we support our clients to find learning rather than lean into an imposter identity
- The role of radical self acceptance
As coaches there are many ways that we can coach our clients through these feelings of being an imposter. We can become skillful at helping them to explore these different avenues and our first step is to have a true understanding of what we are really talking about when it comes to imposter syndrome.

072 Tailoring Your Coaching Approach
The Coaching Crowd® Podcast with Jo Wheatley & Zoe Hawkins
01/16/23 • 18 min
In today’s episode we are discussing how you can tailor your coaching approach in order to become a world class and ethical coach.
We talk about:
- How your clients get better results and more of a transformation through tailoring your approach with them
- How you can understand your clients needs at the start of your coaching relationship and also acknowledge any changing needs
- The importance of listening to how your client experiences the world in order to be able to adapt to them
- The power of questions and how they can support this process
- Why boundaries are important
- Alternative ways to engage with coaching
It is clear that a one size fits all approach does not work in the world of coaching if you want to be an effective coach. The more you work with your client it is likely that you will be able to tailor your approach to meet their needs. Have you considered the different ways in which you can adapt your coaching style to the needs of your clients? Are there any barriers you have come across?

In this week's episode we want to talk to you about an essential pillar of coaching that we both love, beliefs.
