It’s time for some real talk about your to-do list.
I love lists! They’re a great tool to keep us organized. They give us structure and remind us of all the things we need to do to reach our goals.
But they grow and grow until they’re out of control. When you have a mile-long to-do list, you feel chained to it, stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. So even though a to-do list is a great tool, if we don’t use it correctly, we set ourselves up for failure.
So this episode is all about how to break free from this never ending cycle of to-do lists. You’ll learn the ins and outs of using them in a way that helps instead of hurts you. And it’s simple! It all starts with a To-Do List Detox.
Show Highlights
[02:02] - Writing down everything you need to do is a great strategy but lists get long.
[02:37] - To-do lists are filled with a lot of different things.
[03:39] - To-do lists have no limit, but your time and energy do.
[04:35] - The inner perfectionist tells us we should feel uncomfortable if we’re not busy.
[05:03] - Setting impossible standards sets us up for failure.
[06:10] - When we can’t do it all, we beat ourselves up and lose motivation.
[06:45] - Do a to-do list detox!

And the best part is learning a game changing strategy that helps you get focused on your successes and not your failures.

15: The Risks of Being a Perfectionist
The Bold Life
07/29/20 • 19 min
In this episode, I'll explain the reasons why being a perfectionist can burn you out, and the one question you need to ask yourself to determine if your inner perfectionist is creeping up on you.
You may have figured out that I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself. At a minimum, I'm a bit overprepared. Listen in to hear the story of all my lists for my wedding, and how I still almost forgot the rings!
Despite our best preparation, some things just don't go as we planned. Life throws us curve balls all the time, and this can be really hard to deal with if you’re a perfectionist. We feel that we need to control everything, and when we realize we can't, everything seems to unravel in front of us.
Being a perfectionist doesn't always work out, there are going to be things in our lives that we simply can't control. Wanting to be perfect all the time can work against us in many situations. As a perfectionist, our brains love to control and want to know exactly what's going to happen. When things don't go as we planned, we achieve an extra-high level of stress in our lives and incredibly draining.
Learn why perfectionism leads to procrastination, extra work for you, and burnout.

This week on The Bold Life podcast, I'm talking about battery chargers and battery drainers. How certain people fill us with positive energy, but others drain our energy and prevent us from reaching our goals.
I’m sharing why I love to watch the Olympics (I’m glued to my TV for two weeks while they’re on), and a story from the 1996 Olympic Games where a young woman named Kerri Strug inspired the world.
People who are potential battery chargers could be:
- People who inspire us, fill us with energy.
- Family, friends, a mentor or others who are close to us
- People we aspire to be like such as an athlete or a leader in our field
Listen in to find out why all battery chargers have one thing in common, what happens after we interact with these positive people, and how we feel around battery drainers. Learn why a growth mindset is essential for battery chargers, and how those with a fixed mindset are often battery drainers.
Show Highlights
[02:01] My all-time favorite Olympics story from the 1996 Women’s Gymnastic team vault session.
[06:35] Why battery chargers make us feel “bigger” and more confident.
[07:50] The emotional fallout of spending too much time with battery drainers.
[11:37] Why you can have a fixed or growth mindset in one area of your life but not another.
[14:24] Why our brains thrive being around battery chargers
[17:54] Ways to find more battery chargers in your life.
