They also thank their listeners for the text messages and reviews, sharing their appreciation for the Spark Influence podcast being ranked in the top 5% of all podcasts globally. In this episode, they discuss how faith plays out at your work and the different personas we have at home, work, and in our social lives. Coupled with the complexities society has caused us to put up barriers at work or in public. Framing the conversation around the verse from 1 Corinthians 10:30, "so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God." The question they explore is, why can't we always have the same face and be the same person all the time? We have a business face, a family face, or another with their church, friends, and another in our social life. Key Takeaways "Yeah, that's it's a pretty multifaceted question. Part of it is, so let's segment it for business." "Since the dawn of HR departments, things have gotten a lot more complicated in offices, and there are lots of rules, bylaws, and regulations that they put out that say you can behave this way." "There are things you can't say, you know, because it can cause discomfort to other people." "If I take my home persona of me, the face I put at home, that's very different. There are no barriers. There are no guards, I am who I am at home, and I may use language and words that I would never use in the workplace, right? " "I call you butterfly or mom, but I'm not going to go to work and have that kind of same familiarity or a laxness with individuals at work." "Publicly, you're a different person. Just because you're out and you need to. There has to be some Shields and protection that you put up, right? "And it doesn't mean you're dishonest. It doesn't mean you're being deceptive. It just means it's a different facet of who you are in that space in the business." "It's even more constrained 'cause you must be careful about what you say and how you say it? " " There are different nationalities and people from all over the world. So there's this really complex sort of dance you have. To where you walk a tight line." "The goal and aspiration are for someone to know you're a Christian without asking you if you are a Christian. It's kind of like those jokes like how to tell me you are Christian without telling me. You are Christian, right? " "Show love and respect for others all the time. Regardless of the face you're wearing, that should always be how you are and without dropping Christian code words." "We are to be the light of the world, and we are to be salt. So what does it mean to be salt and light? We don't want to be so salty that we turn people away from Jesus, or we don't want to misrepresent the Lord in any way so that people are like if that's what a Christian is. Right? Key Takeaways
We share God's goodness and protection in the middle of the storm. Stop listening to Gurus. Follow your instincts and (listen to the Holy Spirit. "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." - John 14:26 The world is full of you-centered gurus putting the focus on you. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit helps us navigate life and make sound decisions. The Holy Spirit informs our choices. The world is loud, and social media is noisy, but we need to get quiet to hear from the Holy Spirit. "Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!" - Psalm 46:10 ESV.
Be still. Stop collecting gurus.
There is only one book you need, The Bible. Give yourself quiet, gestalt, and meditate on the word. Focus, pray, listen, get quiet, and get in the word. Peter discusses the gifting of discernment that he has honed over the years. The Holy Spirit guides and directs us. Misty shares leaving Enron to come home and homeschool their boys. Peter talks about Misty's child-like faith. God has blessed Misty's business efforts because of faithful obedience and listening to the Holy Spirit. Your faith and work life need to be congruent. Stop looking for external validation. God will equip you; He equips the called. You have got to move, launch, and go. Then the Holy Spirit will lead you. Fear Some people are always learning but never doing. Fear holds a lot of people back from pursuing their dreams. Step out when we are afraid. We are still seeing the struggles of mental health.
Resilience
Hard men make good times, good times make soft men, and soft men make bad times. We can tap into the Holy Spirit and the resurrection power. The Holy Spirit will guide you when you move. Small moves incrementally lead to victory. "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." - 2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV
