Podcaster Q&A

Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

I've been a musician since I could barely walk...and since then I've played in all kinds of wonderful places and with amazing artists. I grew up in Northwest Florida, came to Miami the day before a major hurricane, and I've been here with my wife and now-grown kids for over 30 years. My life revolves around my faith in God, my love of all things creative and my desire to see people grow in community, so I ended up creating a platform that hits all three of those areas.

Why did you get into podcasting?

It started after I wrote my book God and Gigs and I realized musicians don't really read much - so I figured they would be more willing to listen to a show about musicians. I figured out the mic, recording and uploading - but the hardest thing was sticking with it when I thought no one was listening.

How did the idea for the show come about?

The original name behind God and Gigs was "jesus and jazz' - thank goodness I changed it. Because I already had the book name "God and Gigs", it made sense to keep it for the podcast. I wanted to have a place where Christian artists in the mainstream felt seen and heard, so we made sure to always center our show around the artist's real life, and not anything super churchy / nor focused on "making it big". The byline is "Real Artists, Real Life" and that remains the core idea behind the podcast.

What do you hope listeners take from the show?

I hope people listening understand that they can have a great life and career without sacrificing their values, their relationships, or their integrity. I want each listener to feel more confident in walking out their calling as a creative after every episode.

What's been the biggest challenge for you?

Staying consistent and bringing fresh episodes even when I feel like I'm running out of gas, or when technical issues frustrate me.

How can your listeners support your show?

They can go to https://www.buzzsprout.com/729845/support and become a monthly contributor, or they can donate to my "Cold Brew Fund" at https://paul-creative-services.ck.page/products/allens-tip-jar

Any future plans that you'd like to share?

I would love to expand the show one day to a magazine or written medium. So many creators deserve a platform!
