Kicking off our FIRST-EVER guest interview, and it is only right that our guest is the one and only Founder, CEO, and Entrepreneur Jaclyn Johnson.
Grab a notebook and pen for this episode! We discuss:

  • How she started her multi-million dollar company, Create & Cultivate
  • What the process of selling a business looks likes
  • What VC funding is and who needs it
  • & so much more!

Rapid fire questions:

  • What is something you miss from the start of your entrepreneurship journey that you'll never get back?
  • How would you describe your relationship with yourself in one word?
  • Happiness level 1-10 and if it is not a 10, what would make it a 10
  • What insecurities have held you back the most over the years?

About Jaclyn:
Jaclyn Johnson created her career. A powerhouse entrepreneur, by the time she was 28, Johnson had sold her first business, invested in multiple female-owned startups, and launched her second multi-million dollar company, Create & Cultivate. Johnson recognized a gap in conversations, resources, events, and community for female millennial entrepreneurs and responded with a solution, Create & Cultivate, the wildly popular media platform and nationwide conference. In the process, Jaclyn’s own work-life philosophy, built on the cornerstones of female empowerment, hustling hard, and innovation, has propelled her voice to the forefront of the discussion on workplace equality, a new thought-leader for millennial women and Gen-Z-ers on the career come up. This passion for supporting female entrepreneurs led her to co-found New Money Ventures, a venture capital firm and brand studio, on a mission to fund and build the next generation of game-changing, female-led companies.
Named a Forbes 30 Under 30, an Adweek Disruptor, and profiled in Fast Company, the LA Times, Entrepreneur, and more, Johnson has earned her way to the frontlines of a workplace revolution at a time when change agents and disruptors are flexing real influence.

Oh, this is a good one! I got the pleasure to sit with Sonja Rasula and talk about how she took out her 401k retirement to create a business that didn’t make sense to almost all of the people around her! Sonja shares her unfiltered, bold, and hilarious stories, advice, and tough love on this episode in hopes of inspiring you to say EFF IT; I’m going to do it anyway!
We discussed:

  • What sparked The Unique Markets
  • The truth about entrepreneurship and what people think
  • How The Unique Assembly will help millions of women in building and growing their businesses without all the noise
  • How to get through the tough days
  • Community & so much more!

About Sonja Rasula:
In 2008 Sonja Rasula self-funded Unique Markets by risking her entire 401k retirement savings and never looked back. Since then, she’s become one of just 2% of women-owned businesses in the US to hit $1 million a year, is proud to be the only AAPI-owned national market owner in the country, and has been credited for fueling and leading the 'shop small' revolution for over 13 years. Her large-scale, modern, pop-up markets showcase hundreds of small businesses and emerging designers, attract celebs to families to TikTok influencers, and have taken place in over ten cities around the US.
Sonja was named '1 of 30 Women Entrepreneurs Changing the World' by fashion mogul Eileen Fisher, and Los Angeles Magazine awarded her one of the coveted ‘LA's Most Inspiring Women’ awards.
RECAP OF HOW SHE DID IT ANYWAY
“I had ZERO event or production experience before starting the markets. I had NO financing or investors (I risked and took out my entire 401k, $50k to start the biz). I'm a woman and a woman-of-color. Because I had moved back to LA just a couple years before, I had NO COMMUNITY, no mentors, no large group of friends/peers to pull from and get help from. AND to top it off I have a disability, a disease called narcolepsy. If I can do it, ANYONE CAN! :)” - Sonja
Rapid fire questions:

  • What is one truth that you have recently come to terms with?
  • What has been the most exciting improvement you've seen in yourself recently?
  • What has the past 15 years of business taught you about yourself — good and bad?
  • Which one of your mistakes taught you the most?

What a lot of people don’t realize is that “healing is a journey, not a destination you arrive at.” It takes time and doesn’t happen all at once. I have learned so much about myself when it comes to reflecting on past traumas and how to heal from them in the best way I can.
The way we cope and deal with different trauma can totally change how we go through the only life we are gifted. So I wanted to share what support, language and self care that has helped me heal and honestly made me experience life more fully. Tune into today’s episode to hear about...
• 2:26 – Defining trauma
• 5:46 – 6 things I stopped doing when it came to my healing journey
• 15:23 – Self talk that doesn’t hold you back

I hope this episode inspires you to make changes in how you go about healing, especially if this is something you’ve never sat down to think about before. Ask for help and be kind to yourself through the process! You don’t deserve to be in pain from your past, you deserve to heal!
See you back here soon! XO

Today’s episode is all about how to overcome social anxiety and imposter syndrome when you are networking. I know I’m not the only one that goes to an event but then finds a corner and stays there the whole time I don’t have to speak to anyone! I challenged myself to not do that anymore and I share the things that helped me along the way.
Highlights on social anxiety:

  1. Preparation: Familiarize yourself with the event, attendees, or topics of conversation beforehand. This can give you a sense of control and reduce anxiety.
  2. Visualization: Visualize yourself successfully navigating the event. This can help build confidence and reduce feelings of anxiety.
  3. Mindfulness exercises: Techniques like deep breathing or meditation can help you stay present and focused, reducing feelings of anxiety.
  4. Grounding techniques: Find a way to feel connected to the here and now. This might be focusing on the feel of your feet on the ground, or the taste of the drink in your hand.

Highlights on Imposter syndrome:

  1. Focus on Skills and Achievements: Remind yourself of your skills, qualifications, and past achievements. They validate that you're competent and deserving. “I belong here”
  2. Reframe Failure: Instead of viewing failure as a reflection of your abilities, view it as an opportunity for learning and growth.
  3. Mentorship: Hearing that others have been in your shoes can normalize your feelings.
  4. Positive Affirmations: Practice positive self-talk and affirmations. Replacing negative thoughts with positive ones can boost your self-esteem and reduce feelings of being a fraud.

Remember, confidence comes with practice. So, start small and give yourself credit for every step you take. We're all learning and growing, and every challenge we face is a chance for us to shine even brighter.
