Suzanne Crist, the creator of Run251 shares her Run Story. Suzanne was also one of the first people Allison spoke to about the Run Your Story podcast. They both recall where they discussed the idea and how important that moment was for Allison.
Suzanne's journey into running began when she was an administrator at a school. Her first attempt at running didn't go well. She had been a smoker for 17 years and quit smoking, which made her believe that she could participate in the Azalea Trail Run, but she couldn't complete it. She started to progress gradually, making it to one mailbox, then to the next. Suzanne recalls doing everything wrong at the beginning of her running journey, from the wrong shoes to no form. She started with 5Ks and joined the Buffalo Wild Wings Run-N-Tri on Wednesdays, which she still attends today.
Both Allison and Suzanne talk about how the running community in Mobile is very welcoming and supportive, and how they often invite new members to join their different running groups. A supportive community is essential to help you stay motivated and achieve your goals. Suzanne has great mantras such as “keep moving” and "you can do anything for 60 seconds." It's a great reminder to stay focused and keep pushing yourself, even when things get tough.

Kelly Sheets - "You can come back from injury. Don't give up!"
Like the episode? Let us know with a quick text!
Join Kelly Sheets and her unexpected journey into running. Although Kelly had always been an exerciser, she was never much of a runner. However, after the birth of her first child in 2005, Kelly found herself struggling to teach her exercise classes while the daycare was caring for her upset baby. One day, she decided to try running with him in a jogging stroller at Cottage Hill Park. At first, she didn't like it and could barely run a mile without stopping, but it gradually got better. Over time, she upgraded to a double stroller and eventually to a triple stroller when she had her third child. Despite the challenges, Kelly continued to run and found that it became her preferred form of exercise.
Kelly talks about making a comeback after an injury that prevented her from running for six weeks. She trained for and ran a marathon, but it was a tough race. In 2019, Kelly experienced a familiar pain in her right thigh while running, which her doctor suspected was another stress fracture. She shut down her running for six weeks and borrowed a friend's road bike to stay active.
One of the most important things Kelly has learned is to never give up, even when there are obstacles in her way. She mentions how she had to listen to her body and cater her training and workouts to herself instead of comparing herself to others. Kelly believes that there is a certain empathy in the running community where people encourage each other no matter where they are in their running journey.
Kelly emphasizes the importance of customizing workout plans and doing what you can when you can, rather than comparing yourself to others. Kelly shares the advice of a friend who told her that running is easy, you just put one foot in front of the other, and encourages listeners to keep going and doing what they can when they face adversity.
