008 - Are You Raising An Extroverted Tween Girl?
09/18/20 • 16 min
Last week we talked all about raising an introverted tween girl so today we are continuing our little two part series and talking about raising extroverted tween girls.
So just a review for us is that an introvert is someone who prefers calm, modestly stimulating environments, they are energized by being alone and enjoy doing activities either alone or with one or two people. And an extrovert is someone who is energized being around other people, they mix well in social situations, and like doing activities with other people.
Which one do you think that you are? Which one do you think that your tween daughter is? Now most of us have a little bit of each in our personality mix, but we tend to lean one direction or the other.
Today we are going to talk about our tween daughters who lean a little bit more towards the extroverted side. If you think your daughter is more introverted, please be sure to go back to last week’s episode #007 and listen to learn about all things surrounding tween introverts. But today we are on to extroverts.
Our extroverted girls don’t feel they have fully experienced something until they’ve shared it with others. So take the time to listen, mom, let her know that you want to be the one to hear all about - well everything. Become her "go-to" that is excited to hear her stories and thoughts!
It is easy for extraverts to put too much value on their interactions with others. Interacting with others can become so important to extroverts that they often find it difficult if they’re stuck alone. Boredom comes too easily. This can lead them to do things simply for excitement rather than thinking through all the details of what the end result may be.
Helping our tween extroverts get involved but also asking the questions on a regular basis, why do you want to do this? What will the outcome of this decision be can be really helpful in giving our extroverted girls a process to think through their actions.
I’ve created a really great resource for you to help your daughter better understand these two personality traits. I have a video where I teach through the differences and then a Mother Daughter GR8 date that you can take her on to discuss what it feels like to be introverted or extroverted in this life. You can access it by going to https://www.girltribenation.com/personality

007 - Are You Raising An Introverted Tween Girl?
Well, today friends, we are talking about something that describes half of all tween girls - being an introvert! Yep the world is made up of introverts and extroverts. An introvert is someone who prefers calm, modestly stimulating environments, they are energized by being alone and enjoy doing activities either alone or with one or two people.
Studies suggest that 30 to 50 percent of the U.S. population are introverts. That’s one out of every two or three people you know.
One temptation for us mamas who may be more extroverted than our tween daughters is to push them to get their extroversion on. Oh man, am I ever guilty of this one! Honey, why don’t you make more friends or do more extracurricular activities. Here’s the key word MORE. For introverts, less is MORE. More activities is just exhausting. It will wipe out your tween.
Being an introvert can be a super power because it can allow them the gift of focus. Insisting that your child be like you can really damage your relationship. We are going for strong, healthy, parenting relationships during these years that can turn into a friendship when your child becomes an adult. Those adult years are going to last way longer than the kid years, so we have to keep the endgame in mind. We parent now, we love and champion our kids as we guide them, direct them, discipline them, so that we can have a healthy and ongoing relationship with them as adults.
I have an awesome bonus video for you to watch together introducing your girl to the idea of introverts and extraverts. Also you can get a fun mother/daughter Girltribe Nation GR8 Date that goes with it. You can go to https://www.girltribenation.com/personality to access it.
