Mother's Day: What We REALLY Want EP 111
05/09/23 • 13 min
I don't know about you, but I've been INUNDATED with all the Mother's Day gift ideas. What to buy. What not to buy. What a mother really wants...
I was initially going to start this podcast with what we really needed. Paid maternity leave, bridging the gender pay gap, better healthcare, and science for women, acknowledgment of the sacred rite of passage of motherhood... *cue the head nods and "amens", right?!*
But I see a need for something else here...
This trend I've been seeing lately of not celebrating Mother's Day at all because we'll just be left with the pain of grief, loss, and feeling unappreciated and overlooked every other day of the year is really concerning.
Sweeping this pain under the rug and refusing to celebrate Mother's Day isn't the way to shift things for the better.
So in this episode, I'm sharing how you can have the absolute best Mother's Day ever.
When you use the approach I'm suggesting here the way you experience your reality in motherhood and your family relationships will change.
Listen in to learn what I'm giving you permission to celebrate this Mother's Day and the simple steps you can take to feel the bliss and joy you deserve, this time of year, and ALWAYS!

Advocating as a Doula with HeHe Stewart EP 110
You know I like to have the conversations no one else will when it comes to birth and postpartum and today’s episode is no exception!
In our last episode together, HeHe Stewart, founder of The Birth Lounge, and I talked about the benefits of having a doula, who wouldn’t benefit from a doula, the role of the partner, and so much more.
Now we’re opening the conversation about doulas in a different way that’s actually somewhat taboo, regarding advocating for your birth and the role a doula can play in supporting your birth plans.
Mamas, you may ask, “Why is that taboo?” But doulas, you know very well why, because it’s often frowned upon by larger certifying agencies.

Postpartum Autoimmune Diseases with Dr. David Bilstrom EP 112
Statistically speaking, new mothers within the US are entering postpartum very depleted of key nutrients. Many of those nutrients have been clinically linked to mental health challenges like postpartum depression and anxiety. And they are also linked to autoimmune issues, especially when these deficiencies go on for a long period of time.
This is NOT a mainstream conversation most healthcare providers are having.
So it's an episode you won't want to miss if you work with or are one of the 30% of postpartum women diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder!
In this episode, we're sharing:
- A detailed look into the two main factors that contribute to autoimmune disease: hormone imbalance (estrogen dominance) and epigenetics (think X chromosomes).
- How understanding epigenetics is important for moms and how it can help their recovery. Basically, it's all about flipping on the healthy genes (hi, meditation and nutrition) and flipping off the unhealthy ones (we see you, sleep deprivation and stress).
- The nutrients that are most essential for preventing and reversing the autoimmune process.
As if those points weren't fascinating enough, you'll definitely want to listen in to find out what the heck fetal-maternal microchimerism is and why it's so important in breaking the generational cycles of chronic disease.
