play

04/29/22 • 51 min

Being a podcast editor can seem like it's all fun and games until you mess up on someone else's show. Then it can be scary.

But let's face it: no matter how much time and care we take, and how much we invest in quality control, it's inevitable that there will be mistakes. Maybe even major mistakes.

Join us as we talk about some of our mistakes and the strategies we've developed to make things right (or as right as possible) so that we can create the best possible outcome for everyone.

If you spend a little time creating strategies for how to handle mistakes, it can save you a LOT of headaches later.

Podcast Editors Mastermind - How to Use Survivor Bias to Your Advantage
play

05/26/22 • 57 min

How do you make decisions about what's possible or the right thing to do?

Do you look for examples of success to the exclusion of contrary information?

That's Survivor Bias. And it's all over in the podcasting space.

I mean, if we didn't think we could be Joe Rogan, would we even try? Hopefully.

But the downside of Survivor Bias is that it's possible we might toil for years on the faulty assumption that something's possible.

Or that the way it's always been done is the right way to do it.

But that if that's not the case?

What if we guide our clients based on faulty information?

Listen as we explore the concept of Survivor Bias and how it can affect us, our businesses, and our clients. We don't claim to know the answers, but we want to ask the questions because we want to see you, ourselves, and our collective clients succeed.

Podcast Editors Mastermind - What We Accomplished in 2022 and Our Plans for 2023
play

12/23/22 • 55 min

The Podcast Editors Mastermind team (your favorite Yetis) looks back at their accomplishments in 2022 and sets goals for 2023, with a twist - they're joined by THEIR editor, Alejandro Ramirez.

"Doing what we love, I think. Yes, the obvious. We also so number one, started focusing on live experience over podcasting, started accepting sponsorships and promotions."

Alejandro Ramirez joined the Podcast Editors Mastermind show to take a look at the business side of podcast editing in 2022 and 2023. Jennifer Longworth, Bryan Entzminger, and Daniel Abendroth are the hosts of the show and have started focusing on the live experience and the community aspect of the show.

They have accepted sponsorships and promotions, brought on Alejandro to edit the show, and have a sample episode available for people to edit as a trial. Alejandro has learned to control the dynamics of the show, cut out tangents, and interact with chat. The hosts are very grateful for his work and it has made their lives much easier.

Producing a podcast is a LOT of work, and it can be confusing. Fortunately, there are editors like us who not only take on some of the workload, but also bring our expertise and structure to the process. And as an added benefit, we are always looking for ways to improve what we do, for our benefit and our clients.

We focus on improving our processes, get better at identifying issues, improving client relationships, and more. However, that doesn't mean that every client is a fit for us and sometimes we have to make the tough call - to decide that it's time to part ways with a client.

Of course, even in parting, how we do it matters.

Join us as Mike Wilkerson of EditorCorps.com and VoiceFarmers.com shares how he not only practices these himself, but also helps other editors get their businesses up and running ... in a way that benefits everyone and gets another pro editor out into the wild :)

  • Signs that it might be time to part ways
  • Whether it's worth adapting to match a client's processes
  • Why Mike started EditorCorps.com and how it can help podcast editors get started
