In today’s podcast episode, I share five books that have helped shaped me and changed my life and how they did so. Those five books are:

  1. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
  2. Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo
  3. You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Senciro
  4. Inward by Yung Pueblo
  5. The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown

I am currently reading Heart Talk by Cleo Wade.

This week’s mantra from Morgan Harper Nichols:

Come alive, come alive

You have come

So far

Now is

The time

To be more

Of who

You truly

I know everyone is setting resolutions for 2020, but I wanted to share with you what I do instead. I set intentions that are based off values in my own life. Value based living means you are living your life according to what is important to you. How you believe you should live your life, not what others expect, or want of you. Values inspire the desired qualities of ongoing action and can help you be intentional with how you spend your time and live your life. In this episode, I share why I love value based intentions and my own personal intentions going into 2020.

This episode ends with a fun new segment called Clapping Back at Diet culture. In this segment, we share some of the current manifestations of diet culture.

About today’s podcast sponsors:

This episode is brought to you by Beekeepers Natural. Beekeepers Natural is a wellness company that makes innovative products made from healing hive compounds, but they are also on a mission to save the bees! My personal favorite product is the propolis throat spray, made from the immune system of the hive it has incredible germ fighting properties and is something I always have on hand when traveling and when I feel the need for extra immune support. And I also love B. Powered which combines all the superfoods of the hive of propolis, royal jelly, energizing bee pollen, and—of course— honey, I’ve been putting this in my afternoon tea for an energy boost. And the superfood cacao honey, made with Ecuadorian cacao and sustainably sourced honey is so delicious drizzled on yogurt, smoothies and on my toast too!

You can get 15% off your Beekeepers Natural purchase by using this link.

Thank you to Encircled for sponsoring today’s episode. Encircled is a clothing company that focuses on using premium sustainable and luxurious fabrics made from naturally derived materials. They align so much with my values not only because of this, but also because they care about who and how they clothing is made, with 100% of their collection made in Toronto, CA by fairly paid workers. One of their most popular designs is the dressy sweatpant and I’m obsessed with how comfy yet stylish it is, which literally defines how I buy clothes these days! You can use the code NOURISHINGWOMENPODCAST to get $20 off your order of $100 or more, and can be used on Encircled’s Canadian site or Global site.

If you listen to this podcast for any length of time, you know I’m a big fan of collagen. Collagen is the main structural protein in skin, bone and connective tissue and using collagen powders is a great way to include this traditional food in your diet and something I like to use Instead of protein powder. I love that New Chapter offers three different kinds of collagen powders, collagen glow that is mixed with sea buckthorn for hair and skin support, collagen move with calcium added for joint support and collagen elevate with matcha added for mental energy and clarity. All collagen powders are Non-GMO, gluten free and multi sourced from grass fed, pasture raised beef and cage free chicken.

You can purchase New Chapter’s Collagen powders on New Chapter’s website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today’s episode New Chapter.

This episode is a super special one. I invite my past client, Maddy, on the show to share her personal journey to freedom in food and life. In this episode, Maddy shares her relationship with food growing up, when being the “healthy one” became her identity, realizing she had a problem- orthorexia, and seeking help to recover with a therapist and working with me at Nourishing Minds Nutrition.

Maddy shares what it was like to heal her disordered eating and get her period back, where she is at now and some amazing takeaways she has from her personal journey.

Maddy is a wonderful example of someone who was dedicated to her healing and becoming an intuitive eater, and recognizing when it was time to ask for assistance in that process. I so appreciate her vulnerability and honesty in sharing her story in hopes of helping others, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it!

Primally Pure products referenced in this episode: the beauty cream and body butter. Use the code NOURISH for 10% off your order.
