About today’s podcast sponsors:

This episode is brought to you by Beekeepers Natural. Beekeepers Natural is a wellness company that makes innovative products made from healing hive compounds, but they are also on a mission to save the bees! My personal favorite product is the propolis throat spray, made from the immune system of the hive it has incredible germ fighting properties and is something I always have on hand when traveling and when I feel the need for extra immune support. And I also love B. Powered which combines all the superfoods of the hive of propolis, royal jelly, energizing bee pollen, and—of course— honey, I’ve been putting this in my afternoon tea for an energy boost. And the superfood cacao honey, made with Ecuadorian cacao and sustainably sourced honey is so delicious drizzled on yogurt, smoothies and on my toast too!

You can get 15% off your Beekeepers Natural purchase by going to beekeepersnaturals.com/nourishingminds and use the code nourishingminds for 15% off your order.

Thank you to Encircled for sponsoring today’s episode. Encircled is a clothing company that focuses on using premium sustainable and luxurious fabrics made from naturally derived materials. They align so much with my values not only because of this, but also because they care about who and how they clothing is made, with 100% of their collection made in Toronto, CA by fairly paid workers. One of their most popular designs is the dressy sweatpant and I’m obsessed with how comfy yet stylish it is, which literally defines how I buy clothes these days! You can use the code NOURISHINGWOMENPODCAST to get $20 off your order of $100 or more, and can be used on Encircled’s Canadian site or Global site.

There are a few holistic options I always recommend to support your immune system this year, and one of my favorite things to encourage is using elderberry syrup. Y’all know I absolutely love New Chapter and everything they make, and that includes their elderberry syrup! New Chapter’s Elderberry Syrup Advanced Immune Defense contains highly concentrated elderberry extract, I’m talking 64x more concentrated than the fruit itself, giving your body serious support to naturally protect and defend its immune system.* This superpowered superfruit is naturally sweetened with throat soothing honey and can be enjoyed by adults and kids 4 and older, so the whole family can support their immune system!

You can purchase New Chapter’s elderberry syrup on New Chapter’s website, Whole Foods, CVS, Amazon and local health food stores. Thank you so much for sponsoring today’s episode New Chapter.

130: Do You Know What’s in Your Skincare Products? (Plus Simple Swaps to Make)

I want to start off this conversation by saying...Our bodies are made for detoxing and equipped to handle toxins, chemicals, stress and inflammation- so many of the taboo words in the health and wellness world.

The problem is not that we should avoid all these things forever and freak out if we ever use a soap that has fragrance, or buy a deodorant with aluminum or eat an inflammatory food (whatever that means...because truly everyone has a different opinion and one of my biggest complaints with the clean eating concept).

The problem is when these things because daily and consistent in our lives. Yes, our bodies are equipped, but when the load is daily- it can become too much. And conventional beauty and makeup products can be one of the biggest contributors to that daily toxic load...I mean think about it- how many times a day and how many products do you use daily on your skin and face?

Plus, there are so many factors that are outside of our control, becoming mindful about what we can be intentional about (because we all make purchases for our skincare and makeup) can be a way to support our reducing that overall toxicity load and use ingredients and products that naturally enhance and support our body’s ability to function.Plus, I’m all about supporting businesses and brands I believe in. Where we put our money tells the world what matters, and this is a great way to effect the supply and demand chain.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The 4 main ingredients to avoid in your skincare products
  • My favorite skin skincare and green beauty products
  • Tips for making the transition easy, affordable and doable
  • Avoiding greenwashing and companies taking advantage of the natural product movement
  • Intentional shopping and purchasing

132: Understanding How to Apply Gentle Nutrition

If you’ve never heard of the term gentle nutrition before, this is the approach and mindset to applying nutrition in the intuitive eating paradigm. The term gentle nutrition comes from the final of the ten principles of Intuitive Eating, called honor your health with gentle nutrition. Gentle nutrition allows for individuality understanding we all feel different eating different ways, for our own convictions and values, and for our own health needs, too. While its common in the intuitive eating community to avoid the nutrition conversation, this can sometimes lead to more confusion on the subject. I also think understanding nutrition can often help us reject diet mentality and appreciate what food does to us and for us, too.

In this episode I share how we approach the conversation of gentle nutrition with clients, when its appropriate to consider nutrition in your intuitive eating journey and some specific examples of what gentle nutrition looks and feels like. At the end of the day, nutrition is quite simple and is highly individualized and intuitive eating encourages us to explore how we feel when we eat.
