Louis Hastings wanted to get away from the fast life of California and into a place where he felt more at peace in nature. He decided the best place to venture to would be the tiny remote town of McCarthy Alaska, a place with limited resources and only accessible by plane during the long winter months. When Louis begins to disagree with the way the state of Alaska is handling the lands though, he goes on a murder spree.

There’s something special about a good old fashioned treasure hunt that never grows old, no matter when the story took place or who was involved. From finding veins of gold in Alaska to buried loot in the desert, striking it rich in this way is a fantasy. But sometimes, fantasy becomes reality, and it changes everything. When treasure in the form of 6,000 pounds of high-grade Mexican marijuana fell from the California sky during a plane crash in the winter of 1976, lives were changed and lives were lost – and legend was carved into the soul of Yosemite National Park.

In today’s episode we head back to Yosemite to have a debate. National Parks were created “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people”, but what happens when that enjoyment is restricted? BASE jumping is the most dangerous sport in the world, but that doesn’t stop people from wanting to pursue it. National Parks are some of the best (and safest) places to enjoy the sport, but it’s illegal. Today we talk about the history of the sport, the reasons the NPS have prohibited it and those who have such a passion for it - they'll fight to the death for the right to participate in it.
