Mommy's on a Call | Holistic Health, Wellness & Mindfulness for Modern Moms, Entrepreneurship, Mindful Parenting

“The greatest gift you can give your children is your own financial independence when you get older so that they don't have to financially take care of you.” - Bobbi Rebell

Bobbi Rebell is the author of Launching Financial Grownups: Live Your Richest Life by Helping Your (Almost) Adult Kids Become Everyday Money Smart.

She is also a Certified Financial Planner, the founder of Grownup Gear - merchandise to celebrate all the milestones of adulting, a former global business news anchor having worked at CNBC, CNN and Reuters - and the host of the Money Tips for Financial Grownups podcast, of which I am a guest as well!

But on top of it all Bobbi is a mom of 3, a 14 year old and 2 step-children, ages 22 and 25, navigating motherhood as a blended family.

In this episode, Bobbi and I chat about...

  • Her experience becoming an instant mom of 3 in 2.5 years in a blended family while managing a full-time career as a TV anchor
  • The importance of her career to her identity
  • How she had to make hard career choices as a working mom based on the lifestyle and workplace culture
  • Going on a “mentor tour” and tips on changing careers as a working mom
  • The meaning of being a “financial grownup”
  • 3 tips on how to talk about finances with your kids
  • Strategies to avoid a scarcity mindset around money when talking to your kids

121. Growth is Hard. Looking Inward to Move Forward After 3 Years of Podcasting.

Celebrating 3 years of podcasting (and 2 years as the Mommy's on a Call podcast). What started as the Power Mom Minute evolved into Mommy's on a Call. Flash forward 120 episodes, 2 more babies, a global pandemic and THREE years later, Mommy’s on a Call has now reached thousands of listeners in over a dozen countries and is now ranked in the top 2% of podcasts globally. I’m not saying this to brag (although I am pretty proud of that), but more reflecting upon “what if I never launched?”

As I reflected back on the last 3 years, I started reflecting upon what I'm struggling with right now and what does now look like in this new season of motherhood.

And I want you to be part of this journey.

I want to know what are you struggling with right now? What can I help you with? What do you want to learn and hear more about? Because I want to bring that to you. I want to bring interesting guests and content that excites you.

I am so proud of the last 3 years of the show and I look forward to many more years to come!

So please, share this podcast with your friends, share it on social media, and help continue to get the word out there. And if you haven't left a review, please do that because reviews also help gain awareness on Apple Podcasts.

I appreciate all of your loyalty and for listening in even if this is your first episode or your 121th episode.

Come join me in my sandbox of life and in this podcast to explore, play and discover something new every single week.

123. Don’t Be the Angry Mom! Overcome Mom Anxiety and Support Your Mental Health by Asking These 3 Important Questions with Jessica Jenkins, Founder of the Better Battery Co.

1 Recommendations

Jessica Jenkins is the Co-Founder of Better Battery Co., the first and only Carbon-Neutral Alkaline Battery.

Growing up in the family consumer electronic business, Jessica gained passion for entrepreneurship. While completing her degrees, Jessica worked closely with her father’s carbon neutral alkaline battery company and was instrumental in the creation of Better Battery Co.

As a busy mother of two beautiful young boys, Jessica quickly realized the ever present need for batteries, a guilt-free option for disposing of them, and a calling to make eco-friendlier switches for her family when possible.

Jessica divides her time engaged in private practice as a clinical social worker and honored to be supporting individuals in their journey to become better versions of themselves, and working alongside her sister in bringing their vision of Better Battery Co. to fruition.

In this episode, Jessica and I chatted about
  • Launching a product business while working full-time and co-parenting
  • Explanation of what carbon neutral is
  • Teaching your children about climate change and why as a mom she feels it’s her responsibility to take part
  • The maternal mental health issues moms are facing daily from overwhelm of day-to-day life, perinatal depression and lack of community
  • Questions you can ask your friends to check in on them without asking “how are you doing”
  • How to self nourish yourself through self nurturing not self-care
  • What to do when you start to feel anxiety coming on and how to cope with those moments so you’re not the “angry mom”
  • Recognizing when you need a break and how to ask for support
