This week on Menopause Uprising, we’re diving into what happens after perimenopause. While there’s a lot of conversation around perimenopause right now, it’s just as important to understand what to expect in post-menopause.

I'd love for you to have a listen and let me know what you think!

My guest this week on Menopause Uprising is, Dearbhaile O'Hare. Dearbhaile is a survivor of breast cancer and has written a book telling her story.

Things Went T*Ts Up is written and illustrated from the hearts of two breast cancer thrivers - Dearbhaile O'Hare and Jess Pierce.

The goal of the book is to bring comfort and hope (and even an unexpected laugh) to anyone going through a cancer diagnosis, or caring for a loved one going through it. All profits from the sale of this book are going to the Marie Keating Foundation and Purple House Cancer Support - paying it forward to those who so lovingly had our backs when we needed it the most.

The book is available to purchase from Amazon and from www.thingswenttitsup.ie

Today on the Menopause Uprising Podcast I am talking to the lovely Liz Valloor. Liz is an Author, Radio Presenter, Parenting Coach and much more! We had an honest chat about her menopause, how she moved through it and the different challenges we can all face through this period in our lives.

Liz is an absolute joy to chat with...her wisdom is endless and I know you will get golden nuggets of wisdom from this chat.

Top Takeaway for me is the importance of the Pause.

I love how Liz talks about her menopause tantrums resembling those of toddler tantrums..learning the language of our feelings. How important acknowledging your feelings is to your health in life.

Welcome back to season four of Menopause Uprising Podcast. Today our first guest is Clare Baumhauer.

In 2016, Clare was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus and stage 3 Vulval Cancer after being misdiagnosed for 38 years. With no prior knowledge of either condition, she became determined to raise awareness and advocate for better healthcare responses. Following 6 years of remission, their cancer returned in April 2023, along with dVIN (pre-cancer). After surgery, clear margins were obtained for the cancer, but not for the dVIN, leading to close monitoring.

As an advocate, she represents patients with Lichen Sclerosus and vulval cancer, serving on the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network and PAVE group. Clare co-founded Lichen Sclerosus & Vulval Cancer UK Awareness and runs the largest support group for these conditions with over 10,000 members. She also raises awareness through social media and contributes to online learning for healthcare professionals.

When I stared studying and researching menopause years ago I was struck by the many forms of early menopause and by Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) in particular. At the time I struggled to find any information in Ireland and luckily I came upon the Daisy Network - a UK based charity. I reached out to them and soon became the Irish representative for this crucial support service. Since that day I know the awareness and discussion in relation to menopause has expanded and now we need to make sure we keep going and go deeper into the many layers of menopause.

POI is one form of menopause that comes with so much complexity and challenges. I was thrilled to have two fabulous women from our POI Friends Support Group join my podcast and share their stories.

This wasn’t easy.

Neither Jenny nor Ruth’s journey has been easy.

Jenny was in 6th class in primary school when her hot flushes started.

I am in awe of both of them and the journey they have taken and so appreciative of their bravery in sharing their stories - I know it wasn’t easy, there were lumps in all our throats at different stages of this recording.

Thank you Jenny & Ruth for sharing your stories so vulnerably I know it will help so many others.

Natural Menopause is a privilege - the earlier forms of menopause come with many additional challenges - physically, emotionally and mentally.
