Relaunching Your Blog After a Sabbatical PLUS Providing Value Vs. Pitching
In today’s episode I will be answering some specific questions that came in from one of my readers, Chris. These topics will be important to understand and so helpful for you if you feel like you have been branding your company instead of yourself, as well as what to do if you have been missing in action for a while and want to resurface.
Chris asks:
“I’ve been blogging on/off for years and I stepped away for a while to deal with some family things, so my blogging challenge now is to “relaunch” my blog and get back in touch with my list I had built, if that’s possible? Â Sort of awkward to restart, or start over.
My other challenge is to switch from pitching my company like I did years ago and now come up with ideas for blogging that are generic and provide value.”
Enjoy the episode!
Key topics discussed in this episode:
- How to reintroduce yourself to your list after being missing in action for a period of time
- Why it’s important to brand yourself, not your company
- Providing niche-specific value vs. company-specific information
- 5 ways to generate leads from your blog without being pitchy
- Adding a call to action (linking to a capture page) in your p.s. line after providing value
- Providing product reviews on your blog, for products within your niche (not only products in your company)
- These tips are NOT specifically for people in the Network Marketing niche
- Adding a category to your blog to keep company-specific content cataloged
- You can keep your blog specific to the degree that people don’t even know what company you’re in- creates curiosity
- Adding a ‘Work With Me’ tab to you blog
People want to join people in business. If you’re leading them in the right direction, it won’t matter what company you’re in.

#007: How to Become a Master in Your Niche
Living in Alignment with Amy Starr Allen
05/02/16 • 23 min
How to Become a Master in Your Niche
Becoming a master in your niche is probably a lot more simple than you thought.
In this episode, I will break down some different steps you can take to become a master and stand out above the noise on the internet in your specific niche.
Enjoy the episode!
Key topics discussed in this episode:
- More often than not, people give up before they start to see results, they never allow themselves to achieve mastery.
- Hang your hat- figure out what niche you want to master, and then focus.
- It’s important to focus on a niche that you are actually passionate about
- Set an intention to learn something new every day in your niche.
- You do not have to be an expert in order to teach something
- Don’t expect big results immediately
3 Ways to Become a Master in Your Niche
- Study Your Topic– get involved in your niche, immerse yourself
- Interview Experts in Your Niche– look for patterns and best practices, use the content on your blog or podcast.
- Read books on Your Topic (if you read at least 6 books on your topic you will be in the top 10% of experts in your niche.
- When people see you learning consistently, they will see that you are committed to becoming a master and they will follow you and take you seriously
- The continuity of learning is mastery, we never actually ‘arrive’.
- If we don’t stay up to date, our content becomes irrelevant.
2 Ways to Provide Value in Your Niche
- Research and Report– learn from other people’s perspectives and condense what you learn and share it.
- Personal Experience – your life credibility is more valuable than any degree that you could acquire.
- Don’t be afraid to share the small victories, they are often what makes the biggest difference for people.
- If you’ve done the research AND you have personal experience, that will put you in the best positioning of all.
- Don’t compare yourself to others, nobody else in the world has the same experiences and life credibility as you.
Challenge: Read one book and do one interview per month. Stay on the master’s path!
The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.

#016: Morning Routine- 5 Simple Steps to Relieve Anxiety
Living in Alignment with Amy Starr Allen
11/05/18 • 31 min
Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling anxious about the day? Maybe you have a task at hand that feels daunting, or a meeting that you are dreading?
Or do you sometimes just wake up feeling anxious about the unknown? Feeling unsure about the day (or week, or month, or future in general) has in store?
There are a lot of things that cause us to experience anxiety. But anxiety does not have to be an experience that takes over our morning or our day.
This is a morning routine that I use, that I find significantly changes the way I feel when I start my day. Itâ€s just a few simple steps that, when followed daily, will start to have a significant impact on your life and the way you feel as you begin each new day.
Morning Routine- 5 Simple Steps to Relieve Anxiety
1) Practice Gratitude
The very first thing I do when I wake up (no matter how Iâ€m feeling) is say, “Thank You.†I say it out loud, just to acknowledge my gratitude that I woke up and get to experience another day on earth.
Then, I write down three things I am grateful for today. I keep a gratitude journal next to my bed strictly for this purpose, and I write three things right after I wake up and right before I go to bed (before bed is great because it allows your subconscious mind to marinate in gratitude all night long while youâ€re asleep, which will also help you to wake up feeling less anxious).
I find that it works best not to repeat the same three things daily in a general manner (in other words, I donâ€t just say Iâ€m grateful for my family, and for God, and for another day on the planet). What really makes a difference is to focus on 3 smaller things, maybe something specific for today, or something that you take for granted that you would miss if you no longer had access to it (your bed, running water, a roof over your head, etc).
Here are some ideas for topics you can use when you are writing in your gratitude journal:
- A person- write one thing about a certain person that you are grateful for. You can write a new thing about the same person each time you do this exercise (your spouse, for example), or you can choose a different person each time. I find itâ€s good to mix it up because it helps me to realize how many amazing people I have in my life that I am grateful for. Itâ€s also beneficial to write something you are grateful for in regard to a person who you are having trouble with at this time. This will help you to focus on the good aspects of that person, which will ultimately help you to heal that relationship.
- An experience you are having- write one thing that you are noticing right now that you can be grateful for. For example, maybe you are grateful for the stillness in your house this morning, or for the sound of the birds chirping, or for the smell of your coffee brewing. Focusing on an experience like this is great because it helps you to be completely present, right here, right now, and to appreciate this moment in time.
- Something you maybe take for granted, that you would miss if you no longer has access to it- write one thing that you currently have access to that you may not really think about or appreciate regularly, but that you would definitely miss if you no longer had it. For example, maybe you love to workout every day, you could be grateful that you have the ability to do that. Or you could express your gratitude for your cozy bed, or the fact that you have running water, or access to a hot shower. There are an endless number of things like this that we can be grateful for.
You can write more than three things you are grateful for if you want, but keeping it to 3 makes this exercise easy to practice every day because it literally only takes a minute, and that minute will have a significant impact on how the rest of your days pans out, especially if you do it daily.
And, once you fill up your gratitude journal, itâ€s fun and uplifting to go back and read through it before you start filling up another one. Itâ€s definitely a really good read.
2) Set a Daily Purpose
Each day, I find it helpful to set an intention for what the purpose of my day will be. I like to use something that I can practice and keep in mind all day as I go about my daily tasks. It could be something like,
“I will choose to be peaceful no matter what.â€
or
“I will be completely present in every conversation.â€
No matter what I choose, I definitely notice that it helps me to keep my anxiety at bay when I have a daily purpose and intention.
3) Focus on Something Great That You Will Experience Today
Too often, upon waking, we tend to immediately think about the tasks at hand that we dread for that day. This is what causes anxiety.
So instead, I find it very helpful to focus on something great that w...
