Tracey Fry's Thyroid Story

Let's Talk Thyroid

Tracey Fry from Additive Free Lifestyle shares her personal thyroid story which began when she was 16 and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. She later  was diagnosed with Graves and had radio active iodine treatment. Fortunately, not all of her thyroid was destroyed and she is now working with her integrative doctor to support her thyroid function.

Fortunately, about 6-7 years ago Tracey, along with her sister Jo started digging into information about food additives and preservatives and had already been living an additive free lifestyle.

We cover topics like additive free living, toxic load, root causes, essential oils, lifestyle approach, finding a doctor, stress and anxiety.

Meet Tracey Fry

Tracey is co-founder of the blog Additive Free Lifestyle and has been teaching people how to live additive free for almost 7 years. She is the co-author of two incredible cookbooks and the co-founder of the program Additive Free Made Easy. Tracey's story actually starts with her sister Joanne, who looked into additives as a way to manager behavioural issues with her daughter, but it soon became apparent that living additive free could benefit everyone. The more Tracey learnt, the more she implemented and the more her health improved. She is married with two daughters, who now all benefit from the knowledge she now has...

I've just been diagnosed with Hashimoto's/Graves, what's next?

So, you've just been diagnosed with Hashimoto's or Graves disease, hypo or hyperthyroidism, or another thyroid condition ... what do you do next?  When you start researching online it can get overwhelming. Let's slow things down and get you started.

In this episode, I go over 10 steps to get you started now that you have a thyroid condition, including a checklist of thyroid health aspects you'll need to consider in the longer term too.

I draw upon my 25 years of personal Hashimoto's experience and that of many others in my Let's Talk Thyroid Community who have shared with me what they wish they knew when they were first diagnosed.

It will be ok, that's the biggest message for you :-)

Monolaurin & Thyroid Health

In this episode of the podcast, I chat with Damon Sununtnasuk from Palmara Health all about monolaurin.  Monolaurin is a medium chain fatty acid dietary supplement that is synthesised from lauric acid. According to the research there are a few ways monolaurin may support thyroid health.

Here are the key topics we cover:

  •  The importance of taking personal responsibility for your own health - to educate yourself and take time to research different topics.
  • Compliance - what this is for companies selling health products and supplements (and why we are careful with what we say in this podcast)
  • What is monolaurin?
    • Where is it found?
    • How is it made?
    • What forms can it come in?
    • The difference between taking monolaurin and just consuming coconut oil.
  • The main reasons people take monolaurin as a dietary supplement is for immune and digestive health.
  • The possible connections to thyroid health eg immune health, digestive health, pathogens (can be a thyroid trigger) and some of the research referred to below.
  • What to look for in good quality supplements generally.
