After running a marathon in the Himalayas, Mike eventually pioneered the wine industry in Bhutan, a country in south Asia. Mike also founded the multi award winning SoCal Rum Company based out of California.
Mike is into adventure, wine, and living life to the fullest. As Mike prefers to say, he likes to do "Epic Shit with Cool People."

Ep 25 / Phillip North: Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim
Welcome to the Lace Up and Run Podcast. We believe in a fun and active lifestyle with a primary focus on running and hiking. There is a supply of bourbon in the podcast studio so there is pretty much a guarantee there might be some of Kentucky's finest consumed during the show.
Episode 25:
Our guest on the show is Adventure & Ultra runner Phillip North. Phillip shares his story of running/power hiking Rim to Rim to Rim - a 48 mile journey through the Grand Canyon on April 13th.
It's really two adventures rolled into one story. The 1st adventure details the planning and coordinating leading up to. Everything from forgetting his running shorts, trying to catch a bus that doesn't start running its route until May, needing to sleep in his car because his time share was 2.5 hours away, and underestimating the weather down inside the canyon.
The 2nd adventure details the actual running of Rim to Rim to Rim with a total time of 16:51 and a total moving time of 12:18. Through the breathtaking views and challenging 11,000 feet of elevation gain, Phillip was able to “Go fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see.”
Before talking about the great aforementioned adventure, we spent some time talking about his first time as a Race Director with the Red Cedar Half Marathon Trail Run at Giant City State Park. Make sure you look for the 2023 version of the event if interested in jumping in on the fun next year!
