61. Health & Life Coach Jamie Bower: Connected We Thrive "Unveiling the Essence of Community
08/18/23 • 44 min
"Say Hi, Send us a Text Message"
Community – the only place where 'reply all' is simultaneously the most loved and most dreaded button."
One of the main drivers in life is a sense of belonging & in this episode we discuss a topic Jamie is passionate about Community, Community Empowerment, Community & Mental Health, Community Impact on our lives. This is a broad and deep topic & the importance of community spans from building stronger neighbourhoods to mental health benefits, networking, collaboration & social connection.
We can’t escape from communities because they are around every corner from your wine & book clubs to the fitness facility, sports & recreation teams, the bachelor & bachelorette viewing parties, a wave to next-door neighbors, to your sunday church service congregations.
What I do know is that as an immigrant twice in my life a community stands out as an important puzzle piece and part of how one acclimatizes and settles into their new found home. Helping you feel like you belong, that it has a benefit on both your mental, physical & psychological well-being.
Jamie shares that we have a choice in how we respond to our lives and in our lives. That in the midst of hell there is life to be found. It is best to not do life alone, we are not meant to do life alone BUT if you are alone at points in your life to think of something greater than yourself. Faith, God - go beyond the head knowledge and ask what is the action step I can take today to add value to others lives.

"Say Hi, Send us a Text Message"
Laughter is known as the best medicine & the spice of life, why you ask!
Paula is going to peel away at the layers of information like an onion, and unravel this topic of the importance of laughter, and why that statement rings true . Did you know that both laughter and spontaneity have similar benefits. That, saying yes to the small impulses or big ones, and having a good giggle whether spontaneous, or in a simulated fashion through laugh therapy groups has profound benefits on your life, physical & mental well being
- Study findings on humor, stress and coping strategie s by researchers Martin & Lefcourt; explored the relationship between humor, stress, and coping strategies. It found that individuals who use humor as a coping mechanism experience lower levels of stress and anxiety. Additionally, humor was linked to greater emotional well-being and increased resilience during challenging situations.
Having a sense of humor is oftentimes on the list of character traits for people when they are looking for a partner. Laughter is a universal human experience that goes beyond just being a response to humor. Laughter is about finding the child within even if laughter was not a common sound in your home growing up.
Laughter reduces stress levels, is a natural muscle relaxant, has an affect on your cardiovascular health, laughter is a natural mood enhancer, strengthens relationships and human bonds, is linked to enhanced creativity, supports problem solving, helps with cognitive flexibility & adaptability.
Lets not forget improved sleep, digestion and pain reduction just to place the cherry on top.
We have never met an angry, frustrated, unhappy, anxious person during a stressful situation who is laughing. That is why host Paula recommends that working on your sense of humor and bringing more laughter into your life will also have huge benefit on your mental well being.
