Getting to the Root Causes of Anxiety, Depression, and Other Mental Health Concerns with Dr. Tracy McCarthy
Intentionally Well
10/22/24 • 90 min
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Tracy McCarthy, board-certified functional psychiatrist to discuss the intricacies of mental health in today's world. She eventually sidestepped conventional psychiatry after experiencing frustration with the limitations of the practice, and is now dedicated towards root-cause medicine.
She is the creator of the Natural Mood Solution Online Program, the founder and Medical Director of Dr. Tracy McCarthy Functional Medicine, and is highly committed to helping adults suffering from mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and more. However, unlike the conventional approach, she looks at the body/brain holistically and functionally, and works with patients to uncover the real story behind their symptoms.
Most mental health challenges accompany symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, etc., and her unique approach focuses on tackling these underlying issues such as microbiome imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, and toxin exposures. Her goal is to educate her patients and people on how inflammation is highly connected to our mental health, known disorders, and mood disturbances.

Real Hope for Healing Your Chronic Pain with Rick Olderman
Intentionally Well
06/14/23 • 117 min
In this interview, I have a thought-provoking conversation with Rick Olderman, orthopedic physical therapist specializing in chronic pain and nagging injuries that "seem to be incapable" of healing.
A huge motivating factor behind Rick’s search for answers was his own chronic back pain, and after years in clinic but unable to fully help patients, he realized that the fundamental and crucial element connecting movement, structure, and pain was missing from the general conventional physical therapy practice. With additional training and knowledge in Pilates, personal training, and yoga--yet still coming up short--Rick went on to dedicate the last two decades towards pioneering this systems-based research.
His affordable at-home programs provide a much deeper understanding of how unhelpful lifestyle habits and movement patterns can break down muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bone, which in turn creates pain. He's written several books, including his newest, "Solving the Pain Puzzle," and Rick holds a very stern belief that given the right tools, we absolutely have the ability to heal chronic pain.
Rick and I talk about everything from the faulty belief systems we have about our bodies, we discuss why this systems-based approach is not addressed in PT school, he educates us on the patterns of dysfunction, goes through some interactive exercises with us, and so much more. This episode is truly supercharged with detailed information, and provides much hope to those who've felt stuck because of their pain.

Breast Implant Illness: REAL Not Rare, with Patient Advocates Amanda Porta and Robyn Towt
Intentionally Well
10/03/23 • 91 min
In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with Patient Advocates Amanda Porta and Robyn Towt to have a much needed and detailed discussion about Breast Implant Illness.
Both with remarkable stories and a passion for education, Amanda and Robyn
are on a prominent mission to spread truth among women across the world, in efforts to highlight the very real and COMMON happenings associated with breast implants.
Amanda has worked in and throughout the beauty/plastic surgery industry for decades, and was ultimately inspired to pursue Holistic Health coaching. Now laser focused on guiding women with BII towards healing and optimal health, she has dedicated her life to redirecting the public’s view on what health and beauty really entails. As someone who never saw critical or chronic health issues prior to implants, she’s determined to use her voice and expose the darker sides of beauty procedures and the industry’s dirty secrets.
Robyn—now three-time cancer survivor—became co-founder of the Global Patient Advocacy Coalition (GPAC) and is also an administrator in various online support groups for women who are suffering from BII. She’s worked extensively with Arizona legislators in passing an informed consent law for breast implant surgery, and the GPAC team has also partnered with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) to develop a patient decision checklist.
With both of these women having experienced BII and explant surgeries, they know firsthand how real and truly life-altering these decisions can be. They believe every patient should be given the opportunity to make an educated and informed choice, and that means having ALL of the information, not just selected information.

Intentionally Well
10/24/23 • 78 min
In this discussion, I sit down with Wellness Entrepreneur, Behavior Change Specialist, and Podcast Host Chardét Ryel, as we unravel the complexities surrounding toxic "healthy" behaviors.
In today's times, it's more important than ever to care for our bodies and our health, yet it's also easier than we assume to ironically fall into unhealthy patterns of obsession. Chardét gives us a lot to ponder here, as we chat about the following:
- The WHY's on how fitness can evolve into an unhealthy practice
- How body image struggles often stem from our childhood and developmental years
- Social media's role in this, and how we are often not shown the whole story with health/fitness influencers
- How we easily justify and mentally minimize these behaviors due to the inherent nature of fitness and other wellness habits
- How toxic health/fitness behaviors can influence others around us including our children
- Questions to reflect on if you sense the need to look deeper into this topic
- Actionable tools to implement NOW, in efforts to step into a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle
...and more. This episode is a must listen for both women and men who are committed to a healthy lifestyle and truly desire a mentally sustainable approach to achieving their goals and optimizing their well-being in general.

In this episode, I have the absolute pleasure of speaking with Jenn Merrick, who is currently a Functional Nutritional Therapy/Restorative Wellness Practitioner, as well as the owner of Jenn Merrick Wellness. Before diving into this side of root-cause health care, Jenn was practicing as a paramedical esthetician for 15 years, and worked with hundreds of people who were challenged with minor to severe skin issues. Her path changed however, after she realized that the health of the skin was definitely an inside job, and passionately sought out on a quest to educate herself further in order to help clients with their overall metabolic health. Jenn is full of knowledge and really highlights the fact that the conditions we face are just a symptom of a deeper imbalance, and that healing is absolutely possible. This show is full of wonderful reminders and easy-to-implement takeaways when it comes to skin health and improving the state of our metabolism from a foundational and cellular level.

Sharing My Story
Intentionally Well
09/30/22 • 29 min
This episode is a very personal one for me, and it's one I hope will shed a little light as to why I'm so passionate about health and overall well-being. Here, I share a more detailed overview of my past and the events that have led me to this moment in time. My journey is undoubtedly the catalyst to this podcast, and I felt it was important to share my story a bit more intimately, so that you could simply get to know me a bit better. My goal is to also flood you with hope if you (or someone you know) is challenged with what seems like an impossible mountain to climb. We don't always understand why we're faced with the circumstances presented to us and FOR us, but there is always a bigger plan at play. As we walk the path, we continue to turn over stones that help disclose the true purpose behind our struggles, which can ultimately aid in the healing of our body, mind, but most importantly...our soul.

Is the Anticipated "Safer" Breast Implant Coming to the U.S. Market Really Safer? -with Amanda Porta and Robyn Towt
Intentionally Well
04/24/24 • 59 min
In this episode, I sit down with return guests Amanda Porta and Robyn Towt to discuss an extremely important update within the breast implant industry. With a new, "safer" Motiva implant pending FDA approval, these women want to make sure the truth is given to all women considering implants in the future. This implant (that was supposed to hit the U.S. market in 2023) claims to be vastly safer than its competitors because of revolutionary technology (including a microchip), and backed by "rigorous science" and "clinical data."
Both Amanda and Robyn have graciously come back to properly educate us all on what's really going on and that despite claims, this shiny new option is not what it's cracked up to be. As well-known patient advocates, both women feel it is their duty and responsibility to highlight the unfortunate and consistent safety concerns, along with the fact that nearly all safety studies advertised by the company have conflicts of interest. These implants are also already approved in some countries, where authorities have come forward with serious concerns, considering the onset of symptoms/illness they are seeing.
With the date of FDA approval unknown, these women are passionate about continuing to share the crucial importance of both real informed consent, as well as call attention to the common health concerns that are associated with ALL breast implants, including this upcoming option. They want women to be aware of the fact that the majority of doctors are not given the full story, and are sadly unaware of the realities of BII, as well as cancer concerns.
