Hope with Depression - Episode 13a | Domestic Abuse - Part 1
At the time of writing, the UK (and much of the world) is in lockdown because of Coronavirus.
And it dawned on me that being holed up if you were in an abusive relationship, would be a living nightmare.
So after a morning of research, I have created a two part "emergency"
podcast.
* You are allowed to leave the house and travel even in the Coronavirus Lockdown if you are fleeing a dangerous situation, I checked this with the police**
** Contains content some listeners may find disturbing**
Second installment tomorrow.
**I heard earlier that if you dial 999, and do not talk but press 55, the police can geotrack (GPS locate you). I checked with the police 101, and it is semi true. When you dial 999, if you do not speak, a recorded message will come on, and say "If you require police, press 5 twice, if you require fire...etc".
The relevant authority (in this case police) will be informed of a "55" and will then perform the requisite checks.
There is geotracking to the nearest mast, sometimes pinpoint accurate ,sometimes not.
I was also told that if you are in danger and you flee ANY building, residential or otherwise, that is considered essential, and completely legal.
Thank you to the officer on 101 that provided me with this information, and indeed the whole police service.
I also acknowledge that men are victims of this as well, albeit less.
** May contain content some listeners may find disturbing**
Today we talk to Denise, who has been there, done it, and is happily free now, and making a great contribution, and we enjoy a legal perspective from Richard Salvidge a solicitor, who has dealt with this for years.
Tomorrow, we talk to Amy that runs programmes to help people out of this situation where there is addiction in the mix,and Fianna who runs a womens refuge.
PLEASE SHARE LIBERALLY.
