I'm having a lot of trouble with this question. I've been sharing what type of diabetes I have for years now, and it's been really helpful to me to see that people are willing to share their experiences. But there's still a divide because of the stigma that comes with living with type 2.

So I'm wondering, is it really necessary? Of course aside from medical staff and employers but do we need to always indicate what type of diabetes we have all the time?

Let's talk about it.

How do we fight type 2 stigma?

There is a stigma attached to type 2 diabetes.

A stigma of shame. A guilt and embarrassment. It can make us feel like we're broken or defective in some way. We might even start blaming ourselves for our circumstances...or worse yet think that it's our fault that other people are so unkind to us.

The truth is: there are many reasons why type 2 diabetes has become stigmatized-and fighting back isn't easy. I chat with Dex Geralds to get his take on changing the narrative about those living with type 2 diabetes.

Food Police, Shame, and Diabetes. What if we stopped shaming people for how they manage their diabetes? It seems like everyone is worried about my diabetes. But why? What's the big deal? Lots of people with diabetes feel like they're under a microscope. But why should we have to explain ourselves? There's a lot of debate around what the "right" way to manage diabetes is, but at the end of the day, it's up to each individual to find what works best for them. My guest Mila Clarke drops some knowledge on the misconceptions, guilt and shame that comes with living with diabetes, especially as an influencer. It's clear that we need to stop judging and shaming each other, and start supporting one another instead. Do you feel like everyone is always watching how you live your life with diabetes?
