The daily routine of a person with diabetes is anything but ordinary. I'm still learning new things about it every day. Most people with diabetes go to great lengths to keep their blood sugar levels under control. Let's be real: diabetes is no joke. It can be a pain to manage daily, especially when you're juggling work and social life. But it's also something that we have to deal with and learn to live with. Spoiler alert: it's not all doom and gloom! Sure, there are some challenges to managing the condition, but I've also learned how to work around them and make the most of my situation. Diabetes is just one part of who I am. But for funsies, here's a peek into my day-to-day with diabetes.

Food Police, Shame, and Diabetes. What if we stopped shaming people for how they manage their diabetes? It seems like everyone is worried about my diabetes. But why? What's the big deal? Lots of people with diabetes feel like they're under a microscope. But why should we have to explain ourselves? There's a lot of debate around what the "right" way to manage diabetes is, but at the end of the day, it's up to each individual to find what works best for them. My guest Mila Clarke drops some knowledge on the misconceptions, guilt and shame that comes with living with diabetes, especially as an influencer. It's clear that we need to stop judging and shaming each other, and start supporting one another instead. Do you feel like everyone is always watching how you live your life with diabetes?

What if you are living with a chronic illness and it's making everything else in your life difficult? How can we put ourselves first when there is so much to do, such as taking care of our families, going to school or work? In this episode, I chat with health coach and fellow podcaster Lissie Poyner who has diabetes and Crohn's. She shares her journey of balancing the demands on her time and how she learned that putting herself first was not selfish but necessary for her health. She now coaches others living with diabetes on how to do the same.

Lets talk drugs!
Healing in Hindsight®
08/15/20 • 36 min
In this episode we’re talking about drugs. Not the recreational ones but the basic medication that most diabetics are given when you’re newly diagnosed. Metformin is very common amongst pre-diabetics and those diagnosed with type 2. But what is it exactly? How does it make you feel? Side effects?
We’ll talk through all of this and what my personal experience with it has been. Remember, I’m not a doctor so be sure to talk with your physician if you have any questions specific to what it means for you. My experience may not be the same as you. Just in case maybe don’t eat while you’re listening to this one..
KEY POINTS What is Metformin? Literally
- What it does
- How it can potentially affect you
- How it affected me
My past and current medication regime
- Original prescription that I received
- How it worked for me...or didn’t
- My current prescription and how it’s working for me
No more meds please
- Reflection on the vicious cycle of being medicated
- Family story time anyone?
- My perspective on the medical industry and the documentary that inspired this thought

What the Health: The What the Health website has a fact page that lists a lot of information about diabetes. I have not personally checked into this myself so please be sure to do your own research. I am not vegan nor can I confirm that what’s mentioned in the film is accurate for me. At the end of the day, everyone’s body is different and it’s up to you to learn and understand what works for you. If that’s being plant based or not, make that decision for yourself.

Should I stop sharing what type of diabetes I have?
Healing in Hindsight®

I'm having a lot of trouble with this question. I've been sharing what type of diabetes I have for years now, and it's been really helpful to me to see that people are willing to share their experiences. But there's still a divide because of the stigma that comes with living with type 2.
So I'm wondering, is it really necessary? Of course aside from medical staff and employers but do we need to always indicate what type of diabetes we have all the time?
Let's talk about it.

Rest Audit: How to Identify Your Most Pressing Rest Needs
Healing in Hindsight®
04/22/25 • 24 min
The primary focus of our discussion centers on the concept of "rest deficiency," which is a condition far too many individuals, particularly high achievers, experience. Despite adequate sleep, many find themselves persistently fatigued due to the neglect of various essential types of rest beyond mere physical repose. We delve into the seven critical types of rest: physical, mental, emotional, sensory, creative, social, and spiritual, elucidating the necessity of each for holistic well-being. This exploration reveals that true rest is multifaceted, and understanding one's individual needs is paramount to achieving restorative experiences. By conducting a "rest audit," we can identify which types of rest we may be lacking and take actionable steps towards fulfilling those needs, ultimately fostering a more balanced and energized life.
Takeaways:
- The concept of rest extends beyond mere sleep; it encompasses seven distinct forms essential for holistic wellness.
- Many high achievers suffer from rest deficiency, lacking critical types of rest necessary for optimal functioning.
- Practicing emotional and social rest can significantly improve one's energy levels and overall well-being.
- Engaging in creative activities without the pressure to produce can rejuvenate one's creative spirit and mental clarity.
