Heal and Stay Healed with Kelly B Haney - Transformative Healing and a Whole Body Mindset with Paul Blanchard
play

03/25/24 • 49 min

In this thought-provoking episode, I’m joined by Paul Blanchard, founder of Whole Body Mindset. Paul shares his unique perspectives on healing, mindset, and the importance of genuine human connection in our fast-paced world.

Paul emphasizes that healing is an autonomic process and that our bodies innately know how to heal when given the right support. He introduces the concept of the "Whole Body Mindset," which involves three interconnected aspects: the thinker mind, the heart mind, and the gut mind, and explains how trauma, shame, and unhealthy attachments can hinder personal growth and healing.

Towards the end of the episode, Paul vulnerably shares his own experience with a severe autoimmune-like thyroid condition and how making difficult decisions to realign his life, along with an ancient Ayurvedic soup recipe, led to a remarkable recovery.

Throughout the conversation, Paul challenges listeners to consider alternative perspectives and approach healing and personal growth with curiosity and non-judgment, offering a holistic approach to understanding the interconnectedness of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Heal and Stay Healed with Kelly B Haney - Healthy Cooking, Aging Well, and Taking Time for Ourselves with Haley Gillespie
play

02/16/24 • 43 min

In this episode, I'm joined by nutrition, fitness, and overall wellness virtuoso, Haley Gillespie. Haley shares with us her vast insight on a variety of topics, including tips for creating crowd-pleasing nutritious and delicious meals, physical fitness strategies for being our healthiest selves and aging gracefully, and taking time out for self-care and true rejuvenation.

As a delightful finale, Haley shares with us her decadent "Healthy Fudge," a recipe that proves indulgence and well-being are not mutually exclusive.

Haley's Website (Haley Farm): www.haleyfarm.com
Haley's Instagram: @refreshwithhaley

Haley's Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Avocado Fudge with Toasted Almonds
Ingredients:
- 1⁄3 cup thinly sliced almonds
- 2 dark (70% cacao or higher) chocolate bars, 100g (3.5 oz.) each, chopped into
slivers
- 2⁄3 cup smooth almond butter
- 1 avocado, peeled, pitted, and sliced
- 2 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1⁄2 cup maple syrup, or to taste
- 1⁄2 cup black beans (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- flaked or coarse sea salt, to finish
Preparation:
1. In a double boiler (a bowl set up over a saucepan of boiling water), melt the
chocolate and stir in the almond butter and salt with a whisk until smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.
2. Lightly toast the almond slices in 1 teaspoon coconut oil until fragrant, or dry toast.
3. In a food processor, mix the avocado, cocoa powder and maple syrup until smooth. Once the chocolate mixture has cooled slightly (but not solidified!), use a spatula to add it to the food processor. Process until it is well-combined and starts to get very thick (as the chocolate cools).
4. Scrape the mixture into an 8x8 parchment-lined or silicone pan with a spatula and smooth the top. Sprinkle liberally with coarse sea salt, then press almonds into the top. Place in the fridge and allow to cool for an hour. Remove from pan and slice. Refrigerate to store or keep in the freezer for a firmer, chewier texture.

play

02/02/24 • 30 min

It's now been 13 years since the end of my horrific flare of the autoimmune disease, Ulcerative Colitis, 13 years since the beginning of my healing journey, and 13 years remaining completely flare-free!

In this episode, I honor this flare-free anniversary by sharing with you 13 of the many things that have helped get me to this place. 13 of the tools, methods, concepts, and strategies that have helped me to heal from years of mild to moderate flares, and then from the fallout of the major flare, and have helped me to successfully stay healed from my disease for all this time. These are the tools that I believe can help to achieve the same results for you too.

The path to healing and staying healed has proved to be a marathon, not a sprint, with both joy and pain as companions. It has encompassed not just physical, but emotional, mental, and spiritual healing as well, and this list reflects and reinforces that. Every moment of this journey has been, and continues to be, so, so worth it. Have a listen to be encouraged and motivated by my “Lucky 13!”

In this episode, we are joined by Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor and Functional Nutrition Lifestyle Practitioner Susan French of Everything Matters. Susan reveals how stress extends far beyond what we typically recognize—encompassing environmental toxins, chemical exposures, and hidden physiological stressors that constantly impact our health.

Drawing from her diverse background and personal experience, Susan explains how chronic stress systematically shuts down critical body systems. She clearly connects the dots between our modern toxic environment and the explosion of autoimmune diseases, digestive disorders, and fertility issues.

Susan shares practical strategies for managing both obvious and hidden stressors, from mindful breathing techniques and dietary changes to reducing chemical exposures in personal care products. She emphasizes that true healing requires addressing the "soil" of the body—not just symptoms—and offers actionable steps listeners can take immediately to support their body's natural healing processes.

What would you do if the person you love most in the world was struck with a severe chronic illness? It's a tough question, but it's one my partner, Brian, had to face head on when I experienced a life-threatening, year-long flare of Ulcerative Colitis. Our conversation reveals the real-life challenges and lessons learned throughout our journey, alongside the power of resilience and hope.

As we navigated our way through a sea of medical appointments, treatments, and emotional upheavals, we discovered that caregivers are often overlooked warriors in these battles. In our chat, Brian and I delve into the pivotal role of caregivers, shedding light on the strength and endurance needed to support a loved one while maintaining personal wellbeing. From our experience, we highlight the undeniable significance of a strong support network and the vital practice of self-care, while agreeing that there simply is no "instruction manual" for this sort of thing.
