Feisty Triathlon
This week on the show Haley & Alyssa are talking all things women’s health with Dr. Tori Fewell, OBGYN. Inspired by a mailbag question about how to prevent saddle sores, we take a deep dive into soft tissues health for cyclists, fertility, grooming, and returning to cycling after childbirth. She gives us some information about egg preservation for athletes who are interested in having children after their racing careers. Dr. Fewell also talks about some of the temporary effects on the menstrual cycle that she has seen in her patients after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. A triathlete and runner herself, Dr. Fewell gives us her best tips on how to keep our “saddle areas” happy and healthy so that we can all enjoy training and riding our bikes all season long. Dr. Fewell and a colleague will be hosting a free virtual educational event on egg preservation for athletes, you can find more information and register for the event at: https://fb.me/e/jyHJmC0bY Haley also snuck in a quick race recap interview with Skye Moench, following her third place finish at Ironman Tulsa this past weekend. Skye was the top American finisher, right ahead of her friend and race course rival Heather Jackson. She tells us what she loved about the course, how the race went for her, and what her plans are for the rest of the race season. **Support the Podcast** Sign up for the Feisty Triathlon Team at feistyteam.com Orca Sportswear: Code - IRONWOMEN15 = 15% off Zealios Skincare: Code - ironwomen = 15% off InsideTracker: 25% off at insidetracker.com/ironwomen

The Scoop on Tulsa with Jess Jones Lasley (S14E20)

First up on this week’s show Haley has a quick catchup with America pro triathlete Taylor Knibb, who is fresh off a win at WTS Yokohama this past weekend. Taylor’s victory there earned her a spot on the US Olympic Team and a ticket to compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer. At age 23, Taylor is the youngest person to earn a spot on the US Olympic Triathlon squad. But with nearly a decade of racing under her belt, she is well-positioned to make a big splash at the Games this summer. Next on the docket, Alyssa and Haley catch up with retired pro triathlete Jessica Jones Lasley from her home in Tulsa, OK for her inside scoop on the upcoming Ironman happening there this coming weekend (May 23). Although a recent bike crash has unfortunately taken Jess out of the race, she gives us a total run-through of what athletes can expect from this brand new Ironman course, as well as her picks for the pro podium. Jess is a 3-time Ironman 70.3 champion, combat veteran of the US Army, and mom of three. She tells us about her unique path into the sport, and how serving in the Army prepared her for a career as a triathlete. In 2006 Jess returned to racing after giving birth to twins, as one of very few female pros to do so at the time, she reflects on how the sport has changed since then to welcome and encourage women to return to competitive racing after becoming mothers, and hopes that her example helped to blaze a trail for others.
