Evolve with Pete Evans
Rak Razam is the world's leading experiential journalist, writing about and helping shape the emergence of a new cultural paradigm in the 21st century. A writer, film producer and culture maker, he preaches the worlds of shamanism consciousness and popular culture. Join me as I ask Rak:* What does he mean by expanded consciousness?* What are people on Ayahuasca generally seeking?* Where does he see entheogens playing a role in future society?* Who should not pursue entheogens? Rak also shares with us:* The different meanings of medicines and disease in indigenous cultures of the world.* What entheogens are and how different cultures use them for their wellbeing.* How people are using shamanic medicines to expand their consciousness. Rak is passionate about life and the experiences he has had, and his eagerness is contagious:"What I've come to see in the last decade is reconciliation between the old world and the new world, and this understanding that there's only one world!""Consciousness is like this ten-bar spectrum - and we've only been using one bar of our capacity." To find out more about Rak, visit http://rakrazam.com I'd love to know your thoughts and experiences - join the conversation on my Facebook page. Dr David Perlmutter is a Board-certified Neurologist and four-time New York Times bestselling author. He serves on the Board of Directors and is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. Dr Perlmutter received his MD degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine where he was awarded the Leonard G. Rowntree Research Award. He has published extensively in peer reviewed scientific journals including Archives of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and The Journal of Applied Nutrition. In addition he's a frequent lecturer at symposia sponsored by such medical institutions as Columbia University, Scripps Institute, New York University and Harvard University, and serves an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. His books have been published in 28 languages and include 'Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth About Wheat, Carbs And Sugar' with over 1 million copies in print. Other New York Times bestsellers include 'Brain Maker, the Grain Brain Cookbook', and his most recent book, 'The Grain Brain Whole Life Plan'. Join me as I ask Dr David:* How does the body and brain become inflamed?* The condition of modern society's microbiomes.* What he recommends for prevention or treatment of Alzheimers.* How do grains impact our brain health? Dr David is also kind enough to share with us:* The studies on how gut bacteria affect our brain activity (most of our neurotransmitters are made in the gut, not the brain!)* The link between gluten and gut leakiness.* What, how and when he eats.* How to get started on the ketogenic diet. Dr David is a mentor and good friend of mine, and a few things he said resonated with me today:"The ketogenic diet is brand new - I mean it's only the type of diet humans have been on for two million years!""Dietary fat and being fat are two entirely different things.""I've been accused of saying that I'm against research to find a cure for Alzheimer's - I am not. I mean if there were a magic pill that could help people with their brain functioning you bet I'd be writing prescriptions for it - but we don't have that yet." 15. Kirsty Wirth

Kirsty Wirth is the founder of https://kulturedwellness.com/ and her philosophy is simple: she believes we need to accept the cards we've been dealt and then take responsibility for our own health - and that of the next generation. It's about making sure that we don't continue to hand down these health issues that could be stopped now. Her mission is to reach more people and families in our community and to spread the word about how fermenting can be an easy and powerful way to nourish the gut microbiome for good health. Come with me as I ask Kirsty:* How she became so experienced in gut issues.* What causes people's gut issues?* How do you know if you have a gut issue and what tests can be done to investigate. Kirsty also shares with us:* The difference in the microbes of babies born by Caesarean section.* Great foods to feed kids for good gut bacteria.* Her experience of fecal microbial transplant (FMT) and what research is revealing.* Her philosophy on nutrition and good gut health. Kirsty's enthusiasm for good health is contagious, and bursts out in this episode with great quotes like:"I would love Medicare to sponsor everyone once a year to have a gut test.""We don't know what normal and healthy feels like anymore.""I love sitting down to vegetables because I've got microbes now that are requesting that - that's how they live!" To find out more about Kirsty at https://kulturedwellness.com/ I'd love to know your thoughts and experiences - join the conversation on my Facebook page.
