I hope you’re having a positive employment rights week.

This week we’re looking at the arrangements for dealing with bullying and harassment at work ... as people start returning to work in greater numbers. Research shows that at least one in four workers experience some form of bullying or harassment at work ... but oftentimes workers are unclear that from an employment rights position... bullying and harassment are defined differently and are addressed in different parts of employment law.

In this week’s episode, we look at the definitions of bullying and harassment; we also look at examples of some of the behaviour associated with being bullied or harassed at work; and, finally, we look at how you can challenge bullying or harassment in the workplace.

The key point to remember, is that you should not put up with bullying or harassment, and the way to break free from this treatment - is to tell someone!

If the information in this podcast resonates for you and you want to raise a grievance - included in the podcast notes for this episode are some grievance templates that you can use to help you with this. Just scroll down to the bottom of the notes and press the ‘See More’ button, and you will see the live links that will take you some helpful Grievance support templates and information.

Hey everyone

I hope you are doing okay, and if you have returned to work, I hope you are able to navigate the new normal.

Last week we received a question from a listener ... who listened to the first podcast and posed the following question:

“Hi. I was being investigated for something that happened at work and then I was being picked on by my boss, we had an argument and I walked out because I was tired of being bullied by people at work who keep telling lies about me to the boss so I will be sacked. I spoke to my boss about this three months ago, but instead of doing something about it he just lets them make more allegations against me and keeps on investigating me. It’s never-ending. Is there anything I can do about this because I feel I have lost my job through no fault of my own?”

So, this week we focus on answering this question in terms of the steps we advised the worker to take.

We hope you find the information useful.

We encourage you to keep sharing the podcast details so we can reach a wider audience of people who may be struggling with their employment rights. We also encourage you to keep sending us your questions and comments; and, to leave us a review, wherever you're listening to this podcast.

Bye for now

Employment Rights Online: The Podcast - #3: Lodging a Grievance About Discrimination Following a Recruitment Excercise
play

Send us a text

Hi there

Welcome to this week's edition of the podcast.

This week we’re looking at the six steps you need to take to make a complaint about discriminatory treatment at work. To help you I’ve created two templates you can download and use straight away. You can get the downloads here

So in last week’s podcast, we took a brief look at the employment rights you have before you start working for a prospective employer. We looked at this based on the assumption that you are an external person outside the company, applying for a job with a new employer. Simultaneously to this, we also looked at your protection under the Equality Act 2010, because you belong to one of the 9 Protected Characteristic groups.

In this week’s episode we stick with the same subject, but this time we look at your employment rights as a member of a Protected Characteristic Group, when you believe your employer has discriminated against you during the recruitment and selection process, after you applied for a job within the company.

We look at the grievance and appeal steps you can take and we also take a brief look at the Employment Tribunal steps you can take to make a complaint about.

There are two letter templates you can download, that accompany this episode. You can download a grievance letter and a grievance appeal letter template by hitting this link:

Grievance template letters

These templates can be adapted for any grievance and appeal situation you may be facing. I hope you find them useful.

Employment Rights Online: The Podcast - Why Have Tribunal Deadlines Become Important During the Covid-19 Lockdown?

Hi Everyone

I hope you’re continuing to keep yourself safe and that you’re doing well.

The government have been pretty quiet this week, in relation to employment rights and covid-19 news. Not much has come out at all since our podcast last week, but you can bet that there is much churning going on in government, when the question of how to open up society and get people back to work in a safe way, is discussed.

One good thing that has come up this week, is the recommendation that employment tribunals extend their deadlines for submitting claims rom the current three months to six months.

In this weeks podcast episode, I explore this recommendation in detail looking at the implications for the current arrangements as a way to highlight why and extension in tribunal submission timelines, would really benefit workers – with benefits badly needed as a result of the impact of coronavirus working conditions.

Remember to subscribe to the podcast and tell others that we are here, so we can reach as many people as possible.

Hi Everyone

We hope you are doing okay as conversations take place about whether the government is intending to scale back your employment rights, now that the UK has left the EU. We’ll bring you updates about this as things develop.

In this week’s episode, we look at one of the discussions already taking place about covid, which surrounds announcements by some employers, that they will either sack or refuse to hire people who refuse to take the covid vaccine.

In the episode we explore the thinking of employers around this issue and what employment rights you have, if you find yourself sidelined or dismissed from your job, for refusing to have a covid vaccine.

We hope you find something useful that you can work with in this week’s episode. Remember to let others know we are here, by sharing our content and leaving us a review about the podcast on iTunes ...or anywhere else where you’re listening and where you can leave a review. HI Everyone

In this week’s episode, we’re looking at the issue of employers who pay your wages or salary late. We also take a look at your employment rights, and what you can do to challenge late payments.

When almost 5 out of 10 workers have had to deal with late payments during the life of their employment, this is an important topic that we need to talk about, as the cashflows of workers begin to feel the impact of the coming ‘cost of living’ rises.

What we hope you take away from this episode... is the confidence ... that if you are regularly being paid late or not being paid at all ... for work completed... there is a course of action you can take to challenge this treatment. Please don’t suffer in silence. If you need help with organising your thoughts or evidence into a complaint... you can download our Employment Rights Online checklist of 15 smart actions that you can use to help you challenge bullying, unfair and illegal treatment at work. You’ll also find the link to that download in the show notes for this episode.
