Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
Jami Carlacio
The podcast centers on the value of Emotional Intelligence, which is both a mindset and an approach to life that regards problems as situations that help you learn and grow; it is a way of being and doing in the world that enables you to develop and sustain a positive relationship with yourself and others, at home, at work, and everywhere in between. Coupled with mental fitness, emotional intelligence is an essential component of Positive Intelligence (PQ) that enables you to leverage your power to communicate well, make good decisions that align with your values, and create a positive environment wherever you are. In a word, Positive Intelligence is the key element that creates your path to success. Episodes are theme-oriented and correspond to a letter of the alphabet, like this: A = Awareness, Acceptance, and Action; B= Bold and Brave (with a little vulnerability thrown in), and so on.

2. Taking on the Judge and Using the Sage Muscle to Transform Your Relationships
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
04/23/23 • 13 min
When you possess Positive Intelligence®, or PQ®, you have a foundation for success. Personal relationships flourish when you assume accountability for your actions, build up the people around you, and empathize with them. You can turn a "bad" situation into a positive one by exercising your Sage muscle not only with others but also with yourself! Listen in as I explain how the the Judge and Accomplices work hard to sabotage us and lead us down a path of misery, and how, when we draw on our Sage muscle, we move in a completely new and better direction. I offer an anecdote so you can see the Sage in action and conclude with a short story about a good and a bad wolf.

1. Positive Intelligence® and Taking Action
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
04/05/23 • 8 min
In this inaugural episode of Positive Intelligence®: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, Jami explains that PQ® combines emotional intelligence, or EQ, with positive mindset strategies that help you to see problems as opportunities for growth. PQ is a mental gym, and by doing daily PQ® reps, you become stronger and more resilient and can face life and work challenges with poise and confidence. To build your mental muscle, you need to be aware of the self-sabotaging Judge inside your head that breeds negative thoughts that lead to negative behaviors. One you are aware, you learn to accept what's going on, and finally, you take the right action to stop listening to the judge and move in a positive direction. This move comes from your "inner sage," which is to say your true self and your inner wisdom.

Your Positive, Emotional, and Spiritual Intelligence Pay Great Dividends
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
06/14/24 • 25 min
Imagine a world where we all use our emotional, positive, and spiritual intelligences to create the life we would all like to live. In this episode of Emotional Intelligence: Your
Greatest Asset and Key to Success, I explore how understanding and integrating these three types of intelligence can help you become a happier person, a more effective leader, and a person who has so much good to contribute to the world.
If you've been paying any attention to the trends in "intelligence" lately, you'll know that smarts and college degrees and such just aren't "all that" anymore. People who possess the big three, as I call them--EQ, PQ, and SQ--have demonstrated that they are better leaders, more resilient, and frankly, the kind of people that others want to be around. And guess what? We can *learn* these skills just as we would any other kind of intelligence. Sure, there is aptitude, but the truth of the matter is that if we want to become better people, we need to be self-aware, intuitive, and guided by the Source within us that is love, goodness, and compassion. Most, if not all people say that they want their lives to *mean* something. We seek connection, meaning, truth. Spiritual Intelligence gives us that.
I also discuss the ten saboteurs that might be silently undermining your potential, from the harsh inner judge to the relentless people pleaser. Learn practical strategies to counter these negative forces by shifting to your brain's sage mode, where empathy, curiosity, and positive action reside, along with that still small voice that guides you to a path of wholeness, love, and self-compassion. As we examine the growing trend of people identifying as spiritual but not religious, you'll see how spiritual intelligence can guide you toward a more authentic life. Don't miss this opportunity to gain insights into developing these vital intelligences—emotional, positive, and spiritual—to enhance your everyday interactions and overall fulfillment. Engage with our community by sharing your thoughts, and join me at the PQ Gym for ongoing support and enriching insights.

16. Grieving with Grace: Navigating Loss With Your Inner Sage
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
05/08/24 • 33 min
Grief carries the weight of a thousand unspoken emotions. Loss can shatter our world, leaving us feeling lost and alone. But within us all lies the voice of our Inner Sage, whispering divine wisdom to guide us through the storm. In Episode 16 of Positive Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success, my guest Jenn Berger and I talk about navigating the intricate journey of grief. We explore a spectrum of emotions, including the raw pain, the overwhelming confusion, and even the unexpected waves of joy that may surprise us. We delve into the complexities of grief, acknowledging that there's no one-size-fits-all path. Each grief story is unique, just as we are. Leveraging the power of Positive Intelligence and reaching into the deep well of compassion, we'll have a conversation that honors vulnerability and courage. Tapping into the powers of our Inner Sage such as empathy, explore, navigate, and activate helps us navigate the challenges, celebrate the victories, and ultimately, find ways to rebuild our life with grace and resilience. While we may start out just surviving grief, we can learn how to thrive again as we walk the sometimes crooked path of healing because even in the darkest moments, there's at least a pinprick of light that promises solace. Remember, friends, you are not alone.

Embracing Imperfection: Finding Authenticity and Joy Beyond Perfectionism
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
08/02/24 • 30 min
Picture this: You're 51 years old, and instead of slowing down, you become a professional jazz artist, embracing the imperfections that once held you back. Or you left a career in academia, became a chaplain, then an emotional intelligence coach and energy healer. Those are the stories of Elvira V. Hopper and Jami Carlacio, respectively. In this episode, Elvira shares how she transformed her life by letting go of perfectionism. Leaving behind two successful but unfulfilling careers, she embraced her inner jazz artist to become a beacon of authenticity and inspiration. Together, Elvira and I uncover how trauma and our pursuit of perfection can stifle our potential, and how releasing these pressures can lead us to our true purpose.
Elvira and I delve into the power of vulnerability and authenticity, sharing candid personal stories that illuminate the path from perceived inadequacies to genuine connection and growth. We recount transformative experiences, including a life-altering retreat in Tuscany that taught Elvira the value of being open and real and learning to embrace a major mistake and see its value, which reverberated beyond the Italian countryside. Through our conversation, we illustrate how adversity can be a powerful catalyst for personal development, allowing us to better support and uplift those around us.
As we wrap up, we celebrate the joy and wisdom that come from embracing our flaws. Our conversation radiates with positivity and emotional intelligence. We encourage you to silence negative self-talk and embrace your journey with love and gratitude. This heartfelt episode is a reminder to live authentically and joyfully. 2. Using the Sage Muscle to Transform Your Relationships
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
07/25/23 • 20 min
This episode reviews the two paths--the Judge's and its accomplices' and the Sage--and how neural pathways can be changed with PQ muscle workouts. I continue to explain the second of four in the series of Awareness, Acceptance, and Action by using an example of two friends experiencing a conflict with anger, judge, and victim at the core and how using PQ could have prevented the problem.

Forgiving is Not Forgetting: This Sage Power is Transformational
Emotional Intelligence: Your Greatest Asset and Key to Success
05/03/24 • 34 min
Forgiving someone, even ourselves, for a wrong or perceived injustice is one of the hardest things to do. The popular cliche "to forgive is to forget" is wrong! Forgiveness is about freedom--from resentment, anger, blame, judgment, and even shame and guilt. In Positive Intelligence terms, forgiveness is possible when we use our Sage powers of Empathy, Explore, Navigate, Innovate, and Activate. In episode 15, my guest Alicia R. McLain and I discuss the meaning of forgiveness, what events, people, and things have happened to us that may prompt us to need or want to forgive in the first place, and what transformation occurs in ourselves when we make that life-changing decision to move on with our lives. Tune in for insights on the power that forgiveness brings.

"Forgiveness" (Poem) by George Roemisch
Forgiveness is the wind-blown bud which
blooms in placid beauty at Verdun.
Forgiveness is the tiny slate-gray sparrow
which has built its nest of twigs and
string among the shards of glass upon the
wall of shame.
Forgiveness is the child who laughs in merry
ecstasy beneath the toothed fence
that closes in Da Nang.
Forgiveness is the fragrance of the
violet which still clings fast to the
heel that crushed it.
Forgiveness is the broken dream which
hides itself within the corner of the
mind oft called forgetfulness so that it
will not bring pain to the dreamer.
Forgiveness is the reed which stands up
straight and green when nature's mighty
rampage halts, full spent.
Forgiveness is a God who will not leave
us after all we've done.
